It's good if you're looking for patterns and helps heaps when trying to match colours!! I know from experience that memory isn't always good to rely on! Also I feel the need/urge to dress up for shopping-anyone mind if I wear one of my period dresses?

YAY!! It's just that all this talk about cosplay/dressing up has got me excited but I only have 2 things that I'm willing and comfortable to wear in public - my period dresses! So when meeting up look for someone in a green or brown wool dress that doesn't look modern.

That sounds right for the Hakama, make sure the guide allows for the ties and everything, and make sure that if you're getting fabric with a particular design (i.e. stripes) you have to allow for cutting it all the same way, and that the width of the fabric is enough for that.

So, say you need two pieces of fabric (one for each leg) that are 110cm by 130 cm, and the fabric has no design what so ever, you could use fabric that is 130cm wide and 220cm long (doesn't allow for ties) or fabric that is 110cm wide and 260cm long (again doesn't allow for ties/extra).

Sorry this is rather hard to explain without drawing a little picture ^_^ (which is a good idea - you can even practice making things out of paper, or tissue paper if you have some, make them little, that is! otherwise it's a gigantic waste of paper >_

Yeah, but I'm not happy with it... My dresses are a little more respectable (in my eyes - I think I made the Gunslinger Girl dress too short) plus are SCA dresses are warmer than Claes - wool!

Exactly! I'll be warm, cool looking and wearing pretty dress!!! *happy dance* Now to decide if I'll wear my tartan as well... it gets in the way a bit but it's pretty or I could wear a pink cloak..

Can I please have confirmation of who is bringing a sewing machine? Just so I can work out space and plugs... (Mandie could you make a notation beside the names if they're bringing a machine). :grin:

Thanks!!! It just makes it easier if I can work out spaces - much more people coming than last time so I just want to make sure people wont feel left out if they have to be isolated because of space/plug issues.

Inside a shop it may be warm anyway. If you wear your tartan I will wear mine.

Me obviously. I will have the walking foot on to start with, for those tricky fabrics, like lace, statin, coated rip-stop, etc. Yeah we need to team up cutting space with sewing space.

I think I may have to split the sewing and the cutting teams up, so there is enough space for everyone. Maybe the cutting people could use the living room and the sewing people the school part. Will have to see when everyone gets here. Well my tartan is more fashionable then the cloak and I'll stand out more....

maybe do it in 'groups' coz there arn't going to be many sewing machines

btw i dont mind teaching people things bout patterns/fabrics/straight grain etetc coz i've got some jackets to cut and sew (good starting for beginners)
