No. Offical club rules, cosplay is not required at all at any event. However this is a ball, so either a costume or a formal attire may be more suitable than jandels and shorts.

just as a though as this is a Ball it might be appropriate to set a minimum dress code e.g. guys should wear a nice shirt... thoughts?

I think this sounds like a good idea =] It would be a bit disappointing if half the people attending come in jeans...

If the jeans are NICE (ie not ripped) then I don't see a problem in wearing them.
I personally love the look of jeans and a dress shirt and dinner jacket
