| I contacted the Armageddon cosplay judge and I was told that technically its ok to take our blunt swords to the event so long it is there as a PROP. So if you got em its ok to use em but it is reccommended that it doesn't look too real otherwise the cops will be called and you be made to look STUPID!!! |

Re: General Progress By JVCA. 10/03/10, 02:22 pm |
| Invisible zips aren't really much harder than normal zips - you just have to sew closer to the teeth. If you've sewn in normal zips before then you shouldn't have much trouble with it.
As for my own progress, I bought cord to use to redo my shoes, and I fixed the fitting of one side of the neckline of my Amila dress - the other side is unpicked and needs to be pinned and sewn. I might do it tonight, but I'm not sure - I'm pretty knackered. >.< |

Hie thee to a Sallies store ;) I got an overlocker for $40 and a sewing machine for $50. Of course a new pedal for the sewing machine was $150 but that's because I didn't shop around enough ;) And check out Trademe. This goes for everyone looking for a cheap machine: find a c1980s machine as they are right on the cusp of solid and sturdy and will last a lifetime (literally, one of mine came with a lifetime guarantee) and light enough to not need a weightlifter to move them. Also the parts are usually able to be replaced easily. They also tend to be when stretch stitches became more standard.
Anyway, I just about finished a project for someone else so I can work on finishing my own stuff with a clear conscience. Unfortunately I have now an intolerance for corset wearing (waiting patiently to be seen about it in hospital) and with the whole no after dark party in Welly and ChCh I am not really seeing much hope for my Mina dress to be worn. Sigh. I shall have to hunt out some Victorian events to wear it to. |

| I am glad you all like the glove -inspiration to continue the rest- @tintango I tried hot glue at first but it came out all lumpy since I wasn't fast enough gluing it together. So I used Uhu craft glue (I Uhu)
Haha, I went to buy spraypaint today for the axe and the guy was like 'You have ID, right?' Me: 'Haha, of course!' -looks in wallet for driver's license which isn't there- -PANIC- I had to get my boyfriend to get it for me since they wouldn't sell it to me (My driver's license was in a bag... doh) |

Re: General Progress By Rolly. 11/03/10, 03:29 am |
| I wanted to buy an invisible zip but the price scared me! It was like, $3.80, so I went for a dress zip ($1.80) instead.
I went shopping for titbits yesterday, and got 3.5m of ribbon, 1m of lace, and a 46cm white zip. :) Lace is being softened in a tub of water + vinegar, and I'm laying out the zip to my bodice. Now I can start work on the rest of the dress!!!
Joe's Emporium doesn't stock fabric medium, so I'll have to run along to Spotlight or something sometime soon. |

| Alice, they have it at Gordon Harris - Gordon Harris is the art shop that's RIGHT where we get off the bus. When you go in, it's on the left wall of the front-ish part of the store, sort of in where they have all the paints and stuff. |
