[SCP08] SCP Planning Thread

yeah i think thats the best sort of proposal so far. I can make free toll calls at work, so if i get a chance, or someone can get some numbers for me, i will make some enquries. My friend from timaru has already suggested a couple of places to try.

Are we wanting a hall with a shower ? because that will limit options.

heh, i'd second that, unless it was a hall of a sports ground or somewhere with good/decent shower facilities i can't imagine that a typical hall couldn't handle more than 3 or 4 people tops having showers before the hot water runs out. So might aswell flag that aspect of it.

I can probably get my father to pinch a projector from his work, and we could have an anime marathon of a short series, like Fullmetal Panic Fumoffu or FLCL, or maybe a movie.

Who likes that idea?

If enough people support it, then we should start a thread voting for what we watch.

i myself am not a big fan of watching things in groups, but majority rules, so if you guys want to watch something i'm sure it can be arranged. 8D

lol, i usually tend to watch anime/dvd's by myself aswell, but that said watching DVD's on a projector probably beats everyone sitting around staring blankly at each other or playing cards in the evening. :) Has been a while since I had a decent game of cards tho. ;p

Lol, yeah not everyone has to watch whatever is played. We could easily start some other kind of activity on the other side of the hall while the rest watch whatever it is.... theres lots of things we can do... cosplay games, a competition, board games even, though some might feel like just talking or doing their own thing anyway... so yeah. ^^

I can easily be a provider of stuff (I imagine a lot of others would be as well) Depending on limitations I can provide official DVDs or fansubs if need be if we're having a screening session.

me does like the anime screening idea...

yeah we soon need to start a list of what we can watch, what we can do: games/activites/contests/tournments etc

Also I'd be keen to run a mascot contest (before or during), not that I guess we need a mascot but whatever...
For those that dont know, Duckeh suggested this idea, she passed around a book for everyone to draw some sort of mascot picture symbolizing cosplay (in our case we could keep in mind "southern" and "cosplay" heheh), and a winner would be chosen. It was done at ACP for the New Zealand Cosplay website.
Its just another fun thing =3
since when we have our next picnic, we could use it as a banner or something (iunno... heh, just wanting to toss the idea out there...)
also I'll pass round the good old death note to get signed again mwhahahah.

Okay... I just did a number crunch (mm yummy)... I have a list of 32 cosplayers, (half of which though, I've yet to contact about SCP) ... those numbers aren't including friends of cosplayers here yet either.
problem is everyones like everywhere, other forums, not on any forum, those that I dont have contact with yet (friends of cosplayers)... wow what a mission this'll be...

which brings me to remind... everyone thats keen for SCP join the "Southern Cosplayers" usergroup: (Click meee) That way we can send pms/emails to everyone on news/changes etc ^^

My DVD player can play most regions (not British, oddly, but American and NZ work) so we should be okay with pretty much anything.

Just one suggestion however, don't forget speakers. A projector and a DVD playing would be fun to watch, but the sound might be a bit lacking. The other option is to bring some common desktop pc speakers. They won't be top notch sound, but most of the powered ones (plug into power aswell) will put out a reasonable volume level and they're still relatively small for transporting.

Of course the same could be done with a laptop aswell if the projector will take VGA in, and I've got a strong suspicion at at least 2 people will have laptops with them. :) Saves on yet one more item being squeezed into the van.

I have no speakers... Could you bring a set?

We are so speakerless in this household that not even our desktop computer has them.

Well we're gonna use external speakers (+ megaphone) to play music for the dances off an ipod/mp3, could we not just use them?

Also though I can't get anything that'll kill my money pockets, so if anyone already has some good ones that could be used for the anime screening then go right again :)
I've been meaning to buy some for ages for the cosplay games and all that, so I was gonna buy em soon either way.
Hmm good opportunity for some recommendations then yes? Any in mind? Otherwise I'll just talk to the guys at the shop.

But then the megaphone will make the sound even louder regardless...

hmm desktop speakers... lol would he who shall not be named surround sound system work? lol scratch that I'd doubt he'd let me bring em anyway ^^;

i have a spare surround sound setup i can bring along.

If you want some basic small speakers for cosplay stuff, get some logitech x-10s for $39 from DSE
