Guidance, manipulation...these two, they are two sides of the same coin. A player must learn how to use and resist both to be good at this game. That's sort of like saying "I refuse to show you how to use the quadratic formula, because eventually you will need to do it for yourself!".

I have a question for who ever has an answer or opinion:
Will there ever be 'breaks' where there is no mafia game being played?
eg. Exam month, christmas/summer holidays etcetc

I think there should be.
To play the game properly takes up a lot of time.

Probably not. There will always be people available to play, and if a certain person is away, they should just not sign up during that time. There may be a break over christmas, but that is more likely to be a two or three day hiatus.

This is a problem though! So many times people are just signing up not even thinking about if they even have time to play! Some may have common sense... but not even does.

Ahahaha, I was wondering this the other day xD. I'm having exams at the moment 8D (mocks xD). But yeah. I assume if anything, it'll just have longer to get actions and lynched done and stuff.

Inactives get modkilled, game roles on. Game goes on hiatus if there is no player willing to replace them.

I don't think that defined, standardized breaks are nessecary in the slightest.

Besides, during exams most of us will procrastinate and mafia games fall under the category of good forms of procrastination in my mind

Now that there is mafia for newbies any chance of having one for the more experienced players? Or is this something which would 'make people feel bad if they didn't make the cut'?

I think that's why some people have been making largely invitation only games - like Creature's FMA mafia.

"experienced" has a different meaning in everyones books so invitiation games are the only way. We can't really set a benchmark for "experienced" unless we use numeral values such as "3 Mafias and 1 Mini mafia" or something.

Just a random idea about the mafia list thread but perhaps you could lock the current on and create a new one with seperate posts:

Post one: Basic information, posting rules, etc. and the info on the current games
Post two: Planned games
Post three: Previous games (including links to the game thread/limbo thread)
Post four: Reserved/Requested themes

Keep the thread locked at all times and have a specific mod to look after the mafia section and the mafia list thread. To keep things clean and unconfusing, have all game reservations PMed to this one mod who is in charge of keeping the thread up-to-date.

Random idea is random. Was thought up during assembly today.

and when people mean by invitation only pyon well for me anyways

its people who prove to be taking the game relatively seriously pyon and understand how the game ticks pyon

i mean sure its good to let new people play pyon but sometimes if a complete noob gets an important role in the game it makes the game end too quickly pyon XPPP adn it becomes less fun pyon i mean there will be less mindfkery pyon

and i've said this several times pyon being a GM is fun pyon i prefer to GM than to play pyon regardless of whether the mafia is bastardmod or not pyon its fun watching what people do pyon

I HAS ANOTHER QUESTION~

Hey I've been reading current mafia threads (because I can Razz

) and it seems there's now an unwritten rule about editing posts...

I know for myself I've always had the rule 'no editing posts' and I had it in my rules on the first page...
If there is no editing of posts anymore I suggests someone puts it into the 're-usable' set of rules. As a player watching it's ok but as a player playing (atm I'm in FMA) it's a bit annoying re-reading rules and the THE ONLY NEW RULE ISN'T THERE!

Or is the 'no editing posts' rule a lie and people just double posting coz they can?

Heh. Have to agree with Mandie here. :/ I keep seeing people telling each other off for editing but I don't see the rule anywhere. I thought the rule was no editing unless your post is the most recent one. :3

I personally only allow editing for typofixes. This is hard to enforce, I know, but I fully believe in the honour system. I prefer to see multiple posts than one edited hacked together monster.

I don't like seeing sentence appear in a post I am replying to, is my major deal. If I prepare and arguement, post it, and have it rended invalid because the person i am responding to added a qualifier (edits don't show up on the 'A new post has been added while you typed' thing) just makes me seem stupid and foolish. and I hate seeming foolish and stupid.

I'll be formalizing this rule in my next round, but for now in FMA, it will remain implied.

Hey creature it's not just FMA... It's also in the Beast Wars (and I think SZS).
GMs need to realize they can't pull people up if it's not in the rules. Totally unfair for the players.

Well, Beast Wars and SZS are both bastardmods, so the mods there can modkill people for sugar honey iced tea and giggles anyway.

As for FMA, it is well stocked with players who know better. Though I agree, it does need to be formalized.
