| We should do some stats :p
So far, every round of Mafia had a day 1 lynch? Correct me if I'm wrong.
So 10 completed main mafias and 15 Mini? 25 Mafia's total
I think there was like 6 town wins (6/25) 1 draw 2 where no one won 4 other wins 12 Mafia wins?
Someone should check... basically town win stands at 24% and Mafia at 48%.
Now we need some games with no lynches for stats and work out a confidence interval. XD |

@Basaka - You cannot analyze a game of mafia thus. There are too many uncontrolled variables. |

Thats becuase 80% of our players have great difficult spotting a scumtell. This I put down to the relative unskilledness of our players. Despite the number of games, this is still a very green mafia community~ |

and also people say that real mafia isnt fun ==||
judging by what happened when i brought my friend to play ... just bringing the game play a little bit closer to real mafia so XPP
basically you could place suspicion on anyone over any post they make
its just all in how you interpret it and whether you can convince others to interpret it that way as well
which doesnt seem that difficult here sometimes

Re: General Mafia Discussion
By CMKMStephens. 28/09/09, 03:34 am |
| I think for my game I'm going to utlize in the night scenes a combination of CharacterX Targets PlayerY, and CharacterX Targets CharacterZ rather than just simply the later.
For investigative roles only, it will be CharaxChara For killing roles, it will be CharaxPlayer For Doctoring, jailkeeping, etc, it will be CharaxPlayer
Chara targets Chara (Mafia style) Targeter: Learns players character. A doctor, jailkeeper or even a vig who fails their night kill therefore becomes an investigative role, especially in a themed game - In Zetsubou our Doctor became much more useful than the actual investigative roles. Targetee: Learns nothing Mass: Learns of two characters's in the game. Can infer roles and alignment from actions.
- i.e. 'The DoctorY targets X Character, they are protected for the night' - The Doctor now know (albiet depending on their reading of the character) whether the player is town or mafia.
-i.e. 'KillerY targets X Character, the character survives and crawls off' - Only targeter and targetee in the case of a killing role know that the later is weak if it fails
-i.e. 'The CopY investigated X Character, they seem good/bad' - Only the cop knows who the player is - It is up to the cop to use that information. - The mass can only infer alignment of the Character
Chara targets Player (For convinience, just call it Werewolf style) Targeter: Learns nothing Targetee: Learns nothing Mass: Learns that a character is in the game, and that a player was targetted. Can infer roles and alignment from actions.
If a killing role chara targets a player (who survives), the mass also knows that that player is more likely a strong role, and the need to defend ones will likely ensue
-i.e. 'A Mafia/Vig/SK attacked Creature124, who survived and limped off into an alley.'
-The Killer does not learn Creature's Character role -the Mass knows that Creature is injured - Doctors or Doctor varients might want to protect him -The Killers know he is weak too. If it was mafia who attacked, they might want to again, the SK or Vig might want to finish the job -Though this is of course at risk of encountering bodyguards, watchers, etc as they know who to protect should they want to
- i.e. 'The DoctorY targets Syne, they are protected for the night' - The Doctor does not learn Syne's character - The mass knows Syne isn't a doctor
-i.e. 'The CopY investigated Alex, he seems good/bad' - This would be especially bad as alignment of a player is immediately broadcast |

Re: General Mafia Discussion
By creature124. 28/09/09, 03:48 am |
| I see the merits of your way. I just don't think I like it. I changes the entire dynamic of the game on one hand, but on another, it almost completley stifles the theme. What is the point of running a theme game if all you use are character names?
As a mod, I value challenge of writing a good night story that doesn't break canon (much) and follows the events. I see your idea working BRILLIANTLY in a no-theme round, but in a theme round all it does is remove the possibility for mod creativity.
- Quote :
- In Zetsubou our Doctor became much more useful than the actual investigative roles.
There are LOTS of ways around this type of issue. When I write my stories, the doctor only reveals the character if his ability come into play: -If the Doctor saves a mafia from the Vig, it is good that the vig knows that a followup is needed. -If the doctor saves a town from the Vig, a reveal is also positive. -If the doctor saves a town from the mafia, he has done his job, and revealing allows both the mafia more information and to the town. Hence, fair. -If the doctor saves a mafia from the SK - I'd work around it to hide the mafia's identity. Any decent writer should be capable of this.
Ect. TL;DR - I good theme mod does not need to use your format. |

Did you mean player names? Otherwise, wut? - Quote :

It would certainly reduce the scenes of Characters interacting in the Night, but not to the point of 'stiffling'. I have additional creative theme based plans in any case. - Quote :

A - Doctor is a cop. B - This is more useful for the town, true. Doctor and the Vig would both know a probable town character they can trust more. But this is again rather cop like. And doubly so. DoctorX targets TownY KillerZ (Vig) targets TownY DoctorX protects Town Y If the town can put roles to names (which is generally fairly easy) - Doctor knows their target is town - Vig knows their target is town BCD - If using CharaXPlayer it would go like this: DoctorX protects Pura KillerX attacks Pura DoctorX saves Pura Plenty of room for theme based creativity here between the Doctor and the Killer, while not revealing who Pura's character is to either of them. Similarly, the player Mass will know that she isn't a Doctor, and isn't whichever killer role they believe the killer is (Mafia/Vig/SK). So, effectively the same situation as your example, minus the revealing of the players character, but with the added bonus of Pura perhaps being the SK or Mafia if either or are the ones attacking. |

| Forgot to say, failed night kills go CharaxPlayer, successful kills go CharaxChara (+player) for the obvious reason that revealing their identity hardly matters. Again, theme creativity abound. |
