Why is it such an ingrained part of the rules here that innocent can't talk in PMs? Usually for the innocents conspiring off-screen is the only way they can win (with the added bonus of not really knowing if they are talking to other innocents).

Because it adds an advantage to town while taking away the advantage that being able to talk outside the thread is for the mafia.

It also makes it easier for the game master (GM) to see what is going on and what is being said to make sure no-one is breaking any rules.
Mafia talking outside the thread have to keep the GM up-to-date with what they are saying, by including them in MSN chats and forwarding PM's or emails.

People can become easily excluded as well if everyone is talking to each other privatly.

Some roles will let townies talk outside the thread, but they have the same rules as the mafia.

I'm mentioning this because I've never actually played a game where you can't talk via PM until I started playing on the ones here. I've played like 40 mafia games in total I think. See here: http://pinkpt.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=37524

Like I said, the advantage for the towns being able to share what they know is counterbalanced by the disadvantages of people not knowing for certain if the person on the other side of the conversation is really their friend. This leads to all sorts of entertainment when innocents blurt out everything they know to somebody, acting on a false dream or when an investigator has had their list switched and they don't realise it.

As it is, an innocent can't do much to act on any information they receive, because all activity is confined to the thread, the mafia know it too.

I mean reading the tutorials is one thing, but actually playing is another.

could even have a NORMAL mafia (or mini) and just have 2 players for one character.
So have a 'new player' and a 'veterinarian' then if the new player has any questions they can talk with the other player.

There's probably some awesome name for it, I just can't remember it lol (like an older sibling or something...)

if no one else wants to run it... I'll do an easy pokemon or digimon (because the characters are well known)

~~not my fault that mines an 'undecided theme'!!! I had a really awesome one and then as I signed up I forgot what it was T.T~~

maybe have like a 13 player game. Bit longer than a mini and short than a large. Shove a few people in who have played before and have another class of mafia! (or maybe not)

For an introductory game, rather than themed, just call all the roles exactly what they are. That way people can get a feel for the deductive shorthand everyone uses.

My take - we could totally run newbie games....maybe run it concurrent alongside our other three games whenever there is sufficient demand? I think the rule would be low power (ie just cop, doctor, mafia, and one curveball), and no more than 1/2 of the players may have played before (you need some competent players in a game to guide guidance ect).

Probably should be modded with someone who runs a damn good game...to set a good example, you know?

But i think there should be abit more roles just so they know how those roles will work && i like the idea to just call them by there name ^^...

I'd be happy to run one ~~especially as I'm dead in all the games running at the moment~~. I also think they should maybe the newbie games could be a bit smaller than the usual ones? Maybe round 15 people or so?
