A Giant Cross!!!!1
Post By Zorlich. 03/06/08, 08:03 am

Right so I'm looking at becoming Nicholas D. Wolfwood. and naturally I'm going to want a giant cross, should I be building it from wood, or metal, I think metal would be nice, but heavy. otherwise I could just make one from wood and wrap it up. any suggestions?

You could always build a wooden/steel frame and then go with foam over that and wrap it? Would keep the weight right down and minimal material costs. Either that or do the unwrapped version which looks cooler, but would take way longer to make and depends on whether you're focussing on the costume or the weapon. IMHO anyway. :)

heh, good idea, I do quite want to do the unwrapped version, weight isn't really an issue for me, I'm built to handle it. you know who I am at all?

If you're going to Armageddon/entering the contest with it, done use wood or metal, the judges don't like those D;

Pretty much anything that might erm, accidentally wound people is out (i know, you can buy wooden swords there, but the rules still say you can't use them for cosplay props). Um, yeah. I'm pretty sure those rules predate the current judges too.

Well actually, metal props are fine as long as they are not for the cosplay you are entering into the competition, I know this because I was able to bring along my ornamental sword into the con and got away with it, well actually at the time I wasn't sure if I was allowed a metal weapon but the following day a friend of mine brought in her replica of the Masamune which was also metal and she got away with it fine.

So yeah, if it's a Hall cosplay, metal prop is fine..... as long as you can get it cleared with the security and you don't wound someone with it. As for making the Cross Punisher, well a friend of mine is doing Wolfwood on Saturday at Chchgeddon next year, I think he's going to try make it out of foam and then cover it with material to make it look metal.
