| Wow, I go away for an hour and this is what I miss? o_o;
TL;DR: (I lie, I did read, but I'm just summing up my general thoughts)(And yes I abuse this phrase a lot)
Seme/uke - works for *some*, *very few* pairings. Mostly it's a load of bull, and doesn't reflect RL at all. Fangirls - I do generally try and keep my fangirlism to myself, so as not to annoy the rest of the universe. I'm generally iffy about asking random cosplayers do yaoi/yuri poses more explicit than handholding/hugging, because I don't think it's fair on them.
Yaoi/Yuri = just sex whilst het = unloved (a crude summary, but anyway) - See, I'm too lazy to type it out, so I just refer to it as Yaoi, no matter how explicit/ unexplicit it is, but I really like shounen-ai as well - I like reading about the development of the characters relationships, more than anything else, and while hot boysex is always fun to read, I do read more PG than M fics. I suppose for me the reason why I'm not so interested in het-pairings (though there are several I ship) is that I already have a very healthy het relationship RL, so I don't generally take much interest in other het relationships as I have my own to ship. xP
Sexual Preference - I agree that no one's 100% either. Tbh, my person preference is ____-centric. I don't think I'm bisexual, because that would imply general interest in both genders, and having, you know, a het relationship, I can't exactly say I'm gay. However, straight implies an interest in guys in general, and that doesn't fit me either. Certain people will stand out to me, and my interest lies in the individuals themselves, rather than the gender, I guess. Am I making sense? I don't know. For example, I would say that I'm Vaughan-centric, at the moment. *shrugs*
Colin, in this strip (the blondie with the streaks in his hair), pretty much sums up my beliefs: (in spoiler tag because of minor explicit content - hand job under a table)

On the topic of fanservicey photos, I wouldn't ask for anything unless I was approached as a photographer for the pair. If you want to fanservice for photos, fanservice for photos lol. Best models ever are people like Tammy and syn, who basically just threw themselves into it and I barely had to say anything except 'LOL' and 'OMG NICE' |

It's interesting for me to consider "bi" as an aversion to both genders rather than an attraction - it's pretty fascinating. I've had personal experience with both genders, and while each hold different attractions for me I don't ever want to describe myself as more one way than the other. It's weird - I think I may have this attitude purely out of laziness and/or fear of meeting my perfect match and being scared off by their gender. Also fear of missing out on an amazing root, but that's kindof a given XD
@photos thing: no asking models for anything unless they're getting paid, it's physics rude! If you know them though it's okay |

| Hmm... Depends on the money thing. If you're a proper photographer, paid or volunteer, you will need to give models a little direction to create the right look in your photos. Some models won't need much direction, but a simple lift your head a little etc is needed. If, like me, you're still getting to know the basics, I agree that there shouldn't be much direction. Unless you were approached for a proper photoshoot or you know them ^^ |

| I think they put it in different genres, not to be unequal but so people know what it's about. Not everyone likes yaoi, or yuri, or het. So you have to have genres otherwise it would be too confusing. Or at least, that's what I think anyway.
Back to Yaoi Paddles/Bats... they scare me. I saw some videos on Youtube of people who would run up to their friends and wack them as hard as they could on the ass. It looked (and sounds) painful. Those same people, I assume would do it to unsuspecting victims. Ouch. And imagine if it missed and hit the props T___T -snap- |

I'm not opposed to yaoi, I certainly support some yaoi pairings (Seishirou x Subaru ftw) but I'm not really fond on how fandom in general seems to express their love for yaoi with aforementioned bats and over-enthused fangirlisms. Thankfully we don't get that much of it in NZ. DDDDx Those two girls at CHCHgeddon who had 'YAOI FANGIRL' painted all over them.
If someone applied the term yaoi or yuri outside of manga/anime, it would just be weird and wouldn't work.
I don't mind either of them, but I end up reading more yaoi because: 1) There's more of it published in English 2) I have a friend who buys it, and I'm a manga leech, as everyone should know Dx
I don't like the terms seme and uke. They are so stupid. Someone I know is always like, "OMG THIS COUPLE. LAWL. I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT THEM ALL DAY!! SO AND SO IS SO SEME AND THE OTHER IS SO UKE!!!"
And I'm like, "... Dood. Learn to type."
(What they were saying was typed in leet ... And I ... Uh ... Am waay too leet-illiterate to be able to write it.) And while I'm talking about it: Yaoi is utterly rediculous xDD. Seriously. None of it has a plot line!! I only have two Shounen-Ai series, one is Loveless with PLOT, and the other is The Day I Became A Butterfly (which is officially classified as yaoi, BUT IT FREAKIN' ISN'T!! D;<) which is so cute!! >3< (Only 'yaoi' manga I will ever buy xD). I'd feel too scungy if I bought yaoi. (Oh, and yuri - There's an anime getting released next season that's 'yuri', but one of the girls is actually a guy, some girl is looking for her life-long yuri partner or something xDDD) |

Re: Yaoi bats By Guest. 17/11/08, 11:14 am |
| the majour flaw with the argument between sexual preferances is that you are trying to confuse "sexual attraction" with "emotional attraction or love" I would be what many would discribe 100% sexually straight (as in i have never even considered a male for a sexual or romantic relationship) however i feel more emotionally attached to some guys than most girls in which many would say that makes me bi however I would never kiss or have any other physical attachment with them (except for hugging when they are really down I have only ever done this once and that was when his mother left his dad). In regards to yaoi/yuri/eechi/goro/any other genre youd like to name. I am more than happy to watch/read/play any of these due to the fact that at their base level they are just a romance story that is more explicit than usual. My opinion on fangirls is one of indifference if they are loving me and not annoying me in cosplay then im fine but if they are either hurting me, attempting to get me to do things I really dont want to do or annoying me in any way i will respond in kind and nicely to leave my alone (or words to that effect). Yaoi bats i dont quite understand the appeal of being smacked with them un less you are into bdsm or that sort of thing so doing this at a public con gets a thumbs down |

| Love the pairings, hate the fandom. >_> That's my philosophy. I find people who are OTT with this kind of annoying but at the same time I know I can be the same way. And I feel shame. Immense shame. XD
As for seme and uke, I don't really believe those roles need to be assigned as if they're set in stone. To me it seems that it's implying that without a person who can be labelled as dominant and a person who can be labelled as submissive, a relationship can't be functional. Which is not true. My girlfriend I wouldn't put a "seme" or "uke" label on either of us, mainly because we're not retards and can tell the difference between the fandom and reality, but also because we don't need to. 8D We're fine the way we are.
I dunno, I could go on about this for a while but I won't because it'll just make me sound like even more of a twit. XD |
