and yes, if we DID do chess, it would have to be rehearsed & scripted. :) Two controllers, a horde of cosplayers. Divvy the cosplayers into two teams, one for each controller. Then the controllers take turns "summoning" cosplayers onto the feild of battle, and and the cosplayers are used to attack the other controller. The defending controller uses THEIR cosplayers to block the attacks. Resolution of each fight is done by court of public opinion.
Controller 1: I choose YOU, JP! (JP does something silly as he joins the feild). Controller 2: I choose YOU, Duckeh. (Ditto Duckeh) Controller 1: Now Feel my wrath, Controller 2! JP, ATTACK! Controller 2: I'll defend against JP with Duckeh! (JP "attacks" Controller 2 with, I dunno, Flash Attack, but Duckeh blocks with... exploding boobs? The crowd decides who wins.) If the attacker wins, the defender loses a life (5 lives?? 3?) instead of the more complicated system of attack points in YGO/M:TG/etc.
I thought maybe having levels of characters and you sacrifice lower level ones (similar to YGO) to get higher level ones. So you have to sacrifice your Roxas and your Sora in order to summon your Final Form Sora, or something else suitable. Want to summon Sephiroth? Well you've got to sacrifice your Final Form Sora AND a Cloud. So maybe 3 levels of strength and to summon a 2 you have to sacrifice two 1's and to summon a 3 it's 3 1's or a 2 and 1.
But it could be largely unscripted, repeatable (rearrange the groups and get new controllers) and each character could have a go at either attacking or blocking, or at least being sacrificed. Plus crowd participation! |

| When I was uploading all those photos from the Zack Vs Genesis mock battle (which I later named the Auckland Armageddon Cosplayers Brawl) I thought, that'd be a cool cosplay event to have. But at the same time I also thought against it due to the fact there could be a high probablility of someone getting hurt if they aren't careful.
Still this falls in a similar scenario to the cosplay chess as well. Or alternatively we could do something like Utena styled duels (cosplayers both wear a rose pinned to their top and attempt to remove their opponent's one..... except they would need to be properly rehearsed to avoid the case of someone ruining another person's cosplay) However the concept seems amusing of having 2 cosplayers duel for the hand in marriage of another one. |

| if we're doing fights, why not just a pillow fights? Sword fights always end in tears (and blood). Or if you're going to have swordfights, at least make sure they're choreographed so they look cooler than just random sword fights.
I kind of just skimmed over the 6 pages but there should still be skits. Skits are fun! |

| mm, I'm against fights, I have to say for that reason, plus people may take them too seriously. We all know how macho some of us can be~ 8D; Those kinda things we save for doing outside the con. :3
That Yu-Gi-Oh idea sounds epicly fun - thanks, kornie~!
Skits are a must, I agree. 8D It's too far away to start writing those though, as people's cosplay plans are likely to change.
thoughts that are looking likely so far: ~ yu-gi-oh fusion thing thing ~ name that anime theme song ~ skits ~ algorithm dance + extended HHY ~ catwalk, with quick questions from audience re: how the cosplayer constructed it/misc ~ cosplay charades |

to build on cosplay charades -
~20 questions Variation of the real life 20 questions, but role-playing a character. People can ask more than yes or no questions, but if the answer might give it away, then person being interrogated doesn't have to answer.
flaws I can see: ~ may be confusing if those in cosplay of another character go up & pretend to be another? ~ potential spoilers for those who haven't seen/read the series
any way we can get around this? |

Re: Cosplay Events brainstorm By Suixelo. 03/11/08, 07:48 am |
| Maybe ask for no spoilers, they can say general things about the series and just be sensible when asked about something that could be a spoiler.
We could have the people acting as someone they aren't cosplaying hold up a piece of paper with the character's name and series on? |

Re: Cosplay Events brainstorm By Rissa Bayashi. 05/11/08, 09:08 am |
| Basically... A bunch of people almost hitting each other in the head, but not quite.
Like... As one person flings out their hand to the left, that person on their left is ducking down. In turn, when that person flings out their hand, it also misses the person next to them.
It's all about the profession you'd have if you weren't an actor. So a police officer, a boxer, a painter and so on.
It's really hard to explain!! MARGLBLARGLFAIL!!! D;;;;; |

| Heehe, Boyfriend did that song/skit as part of his school stuff about 11 years ago when he was Form 2. By the end of it, that song is very nearly as annoying as the either of the Lamb Chops songs. |

| oh hai. :3
uh~ basically, what's going on is that we're planning to organise an event at Wellygeddon - we've done this in the past (one time failed, one time really great) at Aucklageddon. Said event was held in one of the convention rooms to an audience, and we performed skits/dances/had a questionnaire thingy, and I'm sure there was more, I just can't remember. [too much studying for me today, I think >>;]
Any and all help is appreciated though. :3 |
