Hi everyone

First of all thank you all so much for all your input and for getting back to me on the pro's and con's of an r18 event. I will be going into this event with eyes wide open. I have everything I need so I will mark this topic as solved Cosplay Ball next year. R18.Are you interested? 352708

I am thinking when people walk in the door males get a red card and females a blue one AND ON EACH ONE IS PRINTED ON HALF OF A COUPLE SO SAY IF YOU HAVE MICKEY MOUSE YOU HAVE TO FIND MINNIE MOUSE (oops caps and I am not re-writing that I am too lazy) and the new couple who can stick together for an hour gets a free drink. Just to get more people mingling Razz

Im sure there is a limit somewhere in the rules about just how large it is supposed to be, and I an relatively certain that is... A bit bigger than it should be...

Thanks I will try and think of more ideas because from what I have heard there are heaps of groups inside cnz. So I want to break them up and get them to meet new cosplayers with in our sphere Razz

It sounds like you're just trying to have a booze up so rather than calling it a 'ball' I'd say it'd probably be easier/cost efficient to just have a house party somewhere/organise to meet people in a club/bar. If you really want to cosplay then obviously at someone's house but if you're just looking to meet people and get drunk isn't that what clubs are for?

No that is not the intention and I am sorry that you view it that way. I have only put forward a suggestion on what cosplayers have recommended to myself and a few others. It is fine if it is not something you would like to attend. Thanks for you input and I will look at re wording my suggestion. :)

If it's not your intention to have a booze up, why does it need to be R18?

If theres a bar attached for people to get a drink if they want (like how at auckgeddon the night events have a bar - however limited it may be) and if they can't drink they can't drink.

By suggesting it's R18 it automatically goes down the route of what R18 is classified as, Sexual context, Violence or, just plainly, drunks.
If it were to be an event for everyone, those drinking would be more inclined to not just have a piss up, they'd be expected to keep themselves under control.

And as for the permission thing, as long as it is stated that there is a bar, but drunkeness will not be accepted, those who are underage, do not drink or plainly do not like being around people who are drinking excessively are made aware its not a piss up, its a social event where people are allowed to feel comfortable whether its down after two drinks or so or sober.

Also if you are looking to meet and mingle with those in the Cosplay community, a good deal of cosplayers in New Zealand are under the age of 18, so you'd already be excluding a large amount of the community.

AS much as I can see where you are coming from Tatsuhime, these are all valid points being put forward for a non R18 ball. Not least because more people would attend if it was non R18, making it more viable to hold the ball at all. If only 15 or 20 people were going to attend the R18 ball, it wouldn't be financially viable to hire out a venue without the ticket prices being far too high.

Personally i would have issues with attending an R18 cosplay event considering i am friends with alot of cosplayers who are under 18 and it just wouldn't be fun without them.
And on another note, you don't need alcohol to make an event fun!
And as others have said, there are always bars available, or even an after party for those who want to drink

Maybe try organizing a few smaller meet-ups before you think about doing this? I can understand how you might like an R18 event, but as you can see from other peoples reactions there's different connotations to that. But I understand you're just trying to do something nice and fun.
