That said if you have a minder and stay out in the foyer, sort of near the side, you can greet the kids as they come in :) There is lots of light, and you are not so likely to be in a pathway :) And then there is the corridor to disappear down to remove the head piece as needed Put me down as a tentative then, provided i can organize a minder. If its super packed i will defiantly need one.

Well if you think i will be good there, mark me down as confirmed. With my new ventilation system installed, i should get good run times out of Kaz. I'll just make friends with a security person or something and ask therm to keep an eye on me, incase i get mobbed by kiddywinks LOL. |

| I might have to switch costumes, just realised my Beast mask is too scary. Will change to either Hulk or Shrek 2.0 Both are green. Despite being Marvel, I can hang with Supergirl and Raven- for a superhero crossover team-up!
@brunetteyes- don't worry these things happen. Will miss you, but see you next year!
@fleyer you'll fit in with Arjay's fairy. |

Re: Special Children's Christmas Parties, nation wide- Do Good Deeds ;) By Highlander. 03/12/12, 10:23 am |
| We had seven people for Christchurch. Some were easily recognised such as Alice and Minnie. The kids were 4-12. A few recognised some Naurto or Sailor Moon characters. We shared a backstage room with the 501st.
I think most of us were pretty nervous to start with. But we gave out caps and balloons. It helped break the ice. We must remember to bring Marker pens next time to sign hats with. Some of us did help in Santa's grotto. Which has no Santa in it. But lots of very good presents. We were guiding kids and parents for a couple of hours. I think the look on their faces when they saw what they got was worth it. |

Re: Special Children's Christmas Parties, nation wide- Do Good Deeds ;) By neimhaille. 05/12/12, 02:08 pm |
| Hello! I asked mark if he had some official thing I could post but he doesn't so here we go:
There is a big group meeting at 10.30am where mark rallies the troops and gives you an outline for the day. The famlies are let in soon after and continues for as long as is needed to get all the children all their presents.
So best to be there between 9.30 and 10am. For Auckland the doors are the ones that were closest to the info booth at Auckland Armageddon. There will be a line of families waiting to get in, politely walk past them and tell the person at the door you are part of the costumed helpers. Best to not be in costume and get changed at the venue. I use the upstairs toilets.
If we all make sure to meet inside near the the info booth that was at about 10, 1015 we can then all head in to the main hall and listen to the speech :)
There are multiple options depending on your ability to move in costume! You can escort children through the grotto to get their presents. This is best for anyone in a costume that doesn't pose an issue to mobility. I did this in my Reinette and had to stop because my costume kept getting in the way of others. In my Ever After gown it was fine :) It is very crowded at that end of the hall with lines waiting for the grotto and with the food area. You can roam the main hall and encourage participation with games or other activities. You can also welcome attendees at the main entrance which is best for those in costumes that are bulky or difficult to move in. There is a steady flow through the day so is still an important part :)
The day usually ends between 2-3pm and you are not expected to stay to the very end. 10-2 is a full on day in costume :) There is a room upstairs where snacks and hot tea are provided. I keep forgetting to take a time out and wind up crashing up there from about 1.30. This time I plan on having a short break so as to be on the floor later in the day as well :)
There is a volunteer tent inside the main hall too. Usually directly beside the stage so we can leave bags there. Again I'll try and be there earlyish so can be a point of contact :) It probably is a better idea to use the toilets for changing so as to keep the tent fairly clear for other volunteers to also use :)
Tim is also a really good point of contact:) Super impressed with how incredibly well he worked the hall :) If in doubt, look for Tim! |

| Sorry for the bump, but I will not be able to atend due to health reasons (been sick since armageddon and while I'm no longer infectious I'm too much at risk of picking up a fresh infection).
So please look for Tim, he really does know exactly ho to roll in this event :) |

| We're going to miss you tomorrow Michaela But thank you so much for organizing this event. We will do our best to represent you, and the cosplay community, with pride!
I'll see everyone tomorrow by the info booth between 10-10.15 and I'll be dressed as Shrek. Make sure you get plenty of sleep tonight, it is going to be great! If you have any last questions- feel free to DM me and I'll give you my cellphone. I'll check this thread tomorrow morning before I come.
Good night! |

| Well that was a different experience . I certainly got my work out for the day. all that knelling down . Great to meet TinTango and Aarjaytistic
I sadly couldn't stay the entire day. I had some Xmas presents to sort out, and the heat was starting to get to me.
Most of the kids were into it. They loved TinTango as Shrek.
LOL, one mother wanted me to hold her baby, I had to strongly decline.
All in all very fun to see all the smiling kids having a good time.
All you no-shows missed out, There were free donuts! (actually was quite impressed with the volunteer lounge )
Cheers EO |

| The SPCC is definitely on every year. Check its website for dates. The question is who is going to co-ordinate who is going, emailing the organiser to let them know who wants to come, etc. Normally that is neimhaille. But since we haven't heard, and it's about a month away I thought I would ask. |

Re: Special Children's Christmas Parties, nation wide- Do Good Deeds ;) By TinTango. 18/11/13, 08:36 am |
| Hi everybody, just letting you guys know, The Special Children's Christmas Party is on again this year! Neimhaille has asked me to be the contact person for 2013, so I'm getting the ball rolling :)
The SCCP (Special Children's Christmas Party) is basically a charitable event for chronically ill, disabled and disadvantaged children in our communities. A party is held in most major cities, usually on a Saturday from 10am until 3pm(?) for these children and their families, giving them food, rides, fun activities, and donated presents. A special Christmas treat!
For the last 2 years, myself and a few other CNZ cosplayers have helped out by cosplaying some child friendly characters (I go as Shrek each year), and interacting with these children and their families, so that they enjoy themselves. This is an entirely voluntary event, which can be tiring, but is very rewarding for those who take part.
If you're interested in participating, please feel free to contact me for further details,
Otherwise you can check out their website for sponsors: http://www.sccpnz.co.nz/index.php
The dates this year are:
30th November- Hamilton; Mystery Creek Events Centre
7th December- Christchurch; CBS Canterbury Arena
8th December (Sunday)- Wellington; Te Rauparaha Arena, Porirua
14th December- Auckland Showgrounds, Greenlane.
Let me know if you have any questions |
