Cosplay Games (updated 5/11/09) By Auroa. 11/12/07, 04:08 am |
| Update: 5/11/09
Wow, times have changed. What started out as a way to have fun in cosplay has turned into an official Armageddon event!
I'll change the nature of this post. 1) The first half is info about the official Armageddon Cosplay Games. 2) The second half (divided by a line of ~~~~) will have a list of games you can play if you are having a cosplay picnic/event.
Armageddon Cosplay Games: are organised by Aurellion and Aura, with the help of JVCA, Admin, Tammy, Riven, Mandie_Chan, Kagerouhi, seraphik and Aurellion's dad.
History: It all started with discussions on our cosplay.com thread in the middle of 2007. Game ideas kept expanding, as well as the addition of hosting small competitions with prizes, as well as the Cosplay Dinner. So far the Cosplay Games (name suggested by Pura) have been held in Auckland (08 and 09), and in Christchurch (09) with a wide variety of games and contests.
Future: We plan on organising the Cosplay Games each year in Auckland and Christchurch, plans are underwayto attempt to hold them at Wellington and Dunedin as well.
Games: Our games and events range from a Cosplay Catwalk, Otaku Quiz, Skits, Anime Dances, with competitons like Make a Cosplay, Style a Wig, Create a Prop.
Want to suggest/volunteer?: If you have any ideas, or want to volunteer as a contestant for the next games, reply in the threads, once they are created (they'll be in *insert city* Armageddon subforum), or PM Aurellion or Aura.
Disclaimer: ~ The majority of games are cosplay, anime and video game related (however only ‘diss wars’ will require knowledge of specific characters/series.) ~ All cosplayers are to take responsibility for their own cosplay-costumes and props, we will not be held responsible for any damage during our games, nor do we want to see anyone’s hard work broken or damaged!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Random Cosplay Games & Activities: I just thought dedicate a thread to the Cosplay Games, where everyone can submit ideas of games we can play in our cosplay outside armageddon, at picnics, parties etc. Now although the games listed are nothing new at all, I always give credit when credit is due, I have no idea where the original source of any of these games belongs to (probably years ago)... so I'll give credit to those who suggested thus games anyway.
This is just a list of games that can be done by anyone for any cosplay event in any city. The list is created or the purpose of fun, so take them, use them and have fun with them! I'm giving credit to those who have suggested games etc as thankies ^^
Dance Off = suggested by Berry ~ 5 rounds, make up dance to a mix of 3 songs (lol anime related or not) dance to the beat of the song whether you know the song or not, when the song chances so does your dance style. Each song last about 1 minute - fades out, and the next song fades in. The overal lengt of the mix is about 3 minutes. ~ Statues, keep dancing, when the music stops so do you or your out ~ Outlast, the music keeps on playing, can you keep on dancing? ~ Follow the dance, basically follow the leader's dance moves, when the song changes so does the leader
Improvise = suggested by Aura after watching "whose line is it anyway" marathon ^^' act as your character would act ~ Think Fast ... you are given a scene and situation, go! ... you are given a prop/power/magic/jutsu (taken from another anime/game) ~ Party games, 5 cosplayers will be given an act (someone/thing they must act like or do), and must not tell anyone else. Its up to the other party members (or party host) to guess what your act is. ~ Group Therapy With all the fighting, magic and crazy happenings our heroes be them bad, good or monster, must have to deal with their own personal problems as well. So, now is the chance to tell – get it off your chest. ~ Make a story ... One word at a time (go around the group telling a story) ... Questions only: try to act a scene/tell a story using only questions. ... Number of words: each person will be assigned a number, when they say something it has to be in that number of words assigned to them.
Find and Seek: Cosplay Hunt = Created by Berry Each participant will be given the first clue. Clues can be either of a character someone is cosplaying as or a place in the area. If it is a cosplayer then the clue will go something like this: CLUE1- I'm known as the Key of Destiny and wield keys to the length of a sword. Answer is to find the Roxas cosplayer to receive the next clue....... If it is a Place in the location the clue will go something like this: CLUE1-Come wander in these parts, they bloom so beautifully in spring. Answer is to go to the wintergardens and find the next clue........ There will be Clue givers around to give you clues, but they like to hide and wander off~
Photo Scavenger Hunt = Created and quoted by Riven In teams you'll receive a list of things you need to photograph. Of course, you will also have to be in the photos to make them more interesting! There will be a time limit of ONE HOUR! (maybe I'll extend this...) Points will be given for most creative photos, most list items photographed, in-character photos etc
Cosplay Gangsta rap~ = Created by Duckeh take turns creating a rap,are ya gangsta enough bro?
Cosplay Chess = Suggested by Pyro Human chess in cosplay - tba All pieces are represented by cosplayers. Two chessplayers will play the game. There are two versions: A) Regular Rules chess (Two games) B) Spell Rules (which is still IN planning. Will require chess players to practice beforehand.)
A) A game between the two players begins on a normal-sized chessboard with normal-sized pieces. When a move is made the cosplayers role-playing that piece will move accordingly. Game begins, cosplayers will move according to what move the player has chosen. Once takeover has begun, cosplayers will act out a battle – with the loser being the chess piece taken. Random chatter as a cosplayer moves past another (due to game play) is allowed in fact encouraged!
B) Spell Rules - still TBA Played like above, except each side has a series of spells they can use ONCE during the match. Teleport: one of your pieces to the opposite side Trap: one of your opponents pieces so it can’t move Revive: bring one of your pieces back into play Trade: trade one of your pieces place, with one of your opponents pieces Power: the first to get on one of the power squares gets an extra spell (kill) that can kill any of their opponents pieces but the king.
Battles = Suggested by Aura ~ Random, Battle with your props, or whatever ~ Re-enactment, fight a scene from the anime/game etc ~ Role Play, tba ~ Battle Royale FREE FOR ALL, everyone fight everyone at the same time = especially good with boss music
Anime/Game Games = Created by: Aura, Aurellion, JVCA, Berry, Duckeh ~ Final Fantasy battle Style, click here ~ Pokemon battle Style, Basically the style is as follows, 1 on 1 ... the trainers call out one pokemon cosplayer to the battle field. Call out a move and the pokemon cosplayer has to do as they say. At the moment the idea behind the game is just a no hp, no restriction game. More info TBA ~ Kingdom Hearts 2 Struggle Tournament, For those of you who know and have played the famous kingdom hearts 2 video game, this event should be more than familiar. You and your opponent will have coloured balls strapped to you. Using a very soft-toy bat, the aim is to knock the balls of your opponent and collect them.
Diss Wars If you have something you want to say to a character, then this is your chance! Two cosplayers will diss each others character until someone run out of disses. Keep in mind you are dissing the cosplayers' CHARACTER, not the cosplayer themself.
Dare = Created by Pyro Group against group, involving 3-5 cosplayers, each team will challenge the other to a dare. Teams will be selected, then a toss between heads and tails will determine who will dare first. The team that can’t complete a dare will lose.
Otaku Quizzzzzz = Created by Sock Chibi Time to test the skills on the anime/game knowledge
Mummy = Created by Aurellion Basically, we get into small groups. In each group, should be one person who is designated as a "Mummy", and each team will be given two rolls of toilet paper. In 5 minutes, those two rolls of toilet paper must be gone! ...then we have a competition as to which team has the best Mummy design **After the Mummy contest, comes the Mummy race! Created by Will, all wrapped up Mummys go to a starting line and on the count of 3 race, first one to the finish line wins ^^
Skits! This is special and deserves to be on its own.
Group Cosplay Dances Classics: ~ Cosplay conga line ~ Can-Can ~ Macarena ~ Birdie Dance ~ Hokey Pokey
Simple ~ Caramelldansen ~ Caipirinha ~ Paffendorf Dance ~ Ievan Polkka ~ Algorithm march ~ Rossana Ultra Relax ~ Mahoromatic - Mahoro de MAMBO ~ Tunak Tunak Tun
The rest xD ~ Lucky Star's Motteke Sailor Fuku dance ~ Haruhi: Hare Hare Yukai dance ~ Haruhi: Saikyou pare-parade ~ Dance Dance no Mahou ~ Doremi (ojamajo live) ~ Hona Sainara (Bleach live) ~ Gravitation (live) ~ Thriller ~ Night of Fire ~ Anything Para Para xD
| ffft, I could just imagine that.
Whatever was meant to mean um... whatever? Eh just cause its a battle doesn't mean you need a weapon, you could just borrow one, shout a spell or I guess if we're talking about acting in character here you could take the opponent on with kicks and punches- wait thats not a good idea XD you'll just have to pretend you have kairi's keyblade hahah. Invisible weapon!!
I've never played it before but once on a bus, my friends were playing that game and they kept cracking up. I wasn't sure what they were doing at first and gave them weird looks because all I knew was that they were telling each "Honey I love you". I'd so FAIL at this game... I crack up too easily. =P |
| you know the cosplay chess pyro suggested they actually have that at the Malaysian anime fest at the end of the year
it's really funny because the mcs (2 of them) play chess against each other and the cosplayers move where they are told to move
and when it comes to an enemy they have mock fights
it was so cute when tamaki was fighting souseiseki and she cut his roses with her scissors and he defeated her with tama-chan kick lol =3 |
| Yeah xD Pyro sggested it after seeing it on youtube, it looks really fun, though the main trouble is finding enough people, not to mention the rules. Which is why I've put tba. =D Mmm, I might just start writing it out, I've read so much on it ... we've got three different version: normal chess, spell chess or half chess oO' (that's playing it with half the amount of pieces.)
Seriously, I'd love to host this somewhere sometime ~ trouble is its not really something you can practice before hosting >>'
we might do it at chchgeddon but iunno ^^' |
| actually i think that this can be used for doujin overload
and in the malaysian anime fest this is part of the judging of cosplays
so there really is no need to rehearse as long as you know who your character is but getting the number of people would be difficult and then we'd have to select 2 people to move the chess pieces
and the set up ... props i.e. chess board ... a very big one XP
but yeah if we can make it work it'll be very interesting =3 |
| Lol I dunno what one to reply to this one or in the DO Mini Event thread. Okay do here, since I"m already typing.
The thing is some cosplay chess matches overseas are actually already planned out, choreographed and all, etc but yeah o'course the other way is just allow the players to improvise.
Its hard to tell with numbers, how many usually cosplay at DO? and is there a way to email all of them to ask if they'd want to participate in the match? Thats the biggest thing, the numbers. or we could allow non-cosplayers to fill the gaps, and choose a character to role-play as anyway. or we could do the half-chess version... though since I doubt its a very popular known form, we'd have to know who our two chessplayers are and ask them to practice this chess version first perhaps.
For chch I was/am? gonna do a signup sheet, firstly to know if its worth running the game. And secondly, so it would be possible to try and match the cosplayers character to the piece they'll be. So say a King might be Light/Kira cosplayer and Misa a pawn mwhah. Or good vrs evil side, boys vrs girls, rivals etc blah blah so on.
For chess board, um *tries to think of the list we formed* tiles, cardboard pieces, chalk, tape, some kind of large mat/fabric... The other thing is room for it to be held? |
its the numbers that worry me as its a likely hood thatll well have too little instead of too many XP but whatever TTwTT
| I spose you could run the idea past Seong. Unless we do do the half-version chess... and any pieces that need to be filled can be by non-cosplayers. I can't think of any other way around it.
Without anyway of knowing in advance, how many cosplayers are attending DO and then knowing if they'd be keen on joining... we can't really host it. Its not something you wanna set up and wing on the day and hope to have enough people to play. >>'
The other fact (which is why I asked you about how much time the mini event could have) is the match might last up to an hour... or more... oO' |
| well i could text macy and see how much ppl have already sent in there forms for the cosplay and ask about advertising it. All though i think we should look at more entertaning events its true chess is great fun but it gets bore'n after sometime if your not playing, ok to me i get bored right away. when with dances its like really entertaning sorry if i sound supa stupid and em annoying it just dosn't seem very logical to me. |
| No! No~ =D Opinions are good!!
you don't sound annoying or stupid xD I do agree with your post. In fact thats the next biggest issue imo... is that it could get boring.
In fact thats what I forgot to write earlier, is I'm worried if we host it (for DO or chchgeddon) ... that it'll get boring. Thats kinda why I wish we could practice it before hand... without knowing the interest, or how long it can last or the entertainment value ... its a gamble really.
I dont think I could watch a chess match to be honest, but a cosplay chess match is of course much different. Since its role play, it would be more entertaining imo. But to make sure of this we would need to have every move result in some type of roleplay... for every cosplayer-piece that moves they say something or do something or taunt the opposite piece or iunno.
I think the biggest thing about chess is its a slow paced game that requires you to just sit back and think over your next move. This "think" time is what drags the match on so long. (Chess players please feel free to correct me on this! Its just based from my personal thoughts)
So, what we could do... maybe... have the match pre-planned. That is the two chessplayers already know what moves to make when. If that makes sense... oO' That saves waiting around for strategy and thinking.
