^ Ultimecia was controlling Edea via mind control, but Edea was never Ultimecia. Ultimecia's spirit went inside Edea's body and controlled her, then the tainted spirit went inside Rinoa and controlled her to free Adel from space. Edea would make a good mum within the Cosmos gang~

FF VIII had a not-so-great battle system with 'draw' and 'junction' and the fact that you don't have to level-up >_> But one thing VIII did great success in was the characters. I agree Edea would be great, same with some Selphie, Rinoa, Irvine, Zell, or Laguna. (:
