How many feathers? By azeria. 24/06/10, 11:32 am |
| So I'm making Rin's White Magnet outfit and need to start on the headphones soon.
I'm thinking of either buying these ones http://www.trademe.co.nz/Crafts/Other/auction-298139669.htm or these ones http://www.trademe.co.nz/Crafts/Other/auction-297817666.htm
Leaning more towards the first as they look neater. Though I'm not sure about the square tips, would it be possible to round them and not lose much off the length?
Also I've never worked with feathers, but for people who have how many do you think I would need? I'm a little unsure if 50 would be enough to make both wings. ....I'm thinking it should be, but I don't want to buy only one set and then run out and have to order more.
Thanks for any help! |

| you could buy the packs of feathers from the $2 shops, they'll be quite big but you can just cut them down and trim the edges for that tidy look, they have about 20-30 in them, 1-2 packs for each wing should be more than enough~ (craaaaaap, I should reaally start my set of headphones *shakes fist at pope* ) |

| If you're going to get the ones off trademe then get the 500+ feathers as then you will have more than you need and if you make a mistake that is a good thing.
Based on the image you'll need to trim and shape whatever feathers you end up getting as the ones pictured are so fine so you are better to go for the more cost-effective product. As for colour. Mix up some diluted bleach and put a couple of feathers in it for about half an hour then take them out, wash and dry and see if it will give you the colour you want without ruining the feathers.
Another option is white fabric paint diluted in water in a spray bottle and spray the feathers. (Make sure you clean the nozzle on the spray bottle directly after use or it will clog/block up the nozzle.
Hope this helps.
