Hanna is Not a Boy's Name
By Pyro. 13/06/10, 02:55 pm |
| Since I know there are a few of us out there who read this, I thought I'd start a general discussion thread for it.
Who's your favorite character? Can anyone actually pick a favorite? Any crack theories about what Ples might be, or what he has to do with Lee's murder? And for those who read Tessa's LJ, are you excited for the baker guy to get more background?
My answers to those questions: Lamont/{...}/Conrad, I can pick three equal favorites?, I think Ples might be either a selkie or made of clockwork, I think he might've been the one to kill Lee, not Veser's dad, and BAKER GUUUY~~!
For those who don't know the series: it's about a guy called Hanna who is a paranormal investigator and his undead, unnamed sidekick, who has no memory of who he used to be prior to dying. THEY SOLVE MYSTERIES! Badly. And there's a vampire called Conrad and a back-alley med-school dropout doctor called Worth. Among other awesome characters. :B CHECK IT OUT~! |

| Well my fave is Doc Worth. I seem to like sleazy/asshole characters. The closely followed by {...}. No thought behind Ples and Lee but you can tell that he knows more then he lets on. The selkie idea is quite possible. |

Re: Hanna is Not a Boy's Name

| A full summary of my selkie idea:
Lee told Ples about Veser's mother during that bar scene. Ples, who is a selkie, had come to land looking for Veser's mother ages back and gotten caught up in human life, and upon hearing news of her decides to free her from Veser's dad. Lee gets the pelt first, but then Ples catches him running off with it and kills him. The reason Veser's dad is missing is because he was likewise killed by Ples. Veser's mother is gone because she's returned to the sea already.
Ples is always depicted as being friends with Veser because they're both part or wholly selkie and thus identify with each other. This theory could also explain why Ples looks so damned evil in the poster.
... ... ... My theory is totally stupid but whatever making up cracky stuff to explain things is fun. =D |

| i adore {...}. and also Veser, because i think i have a bit of a thing for shark teeth...but mainly {...}. i love his characterisation, his subtle changes in expression, but mainly, i think i just dig narrators.
ples's tik toking is his heartbeat, because he has a clockwork heart. but that begs the question of who is maintaining it for him, and HOW THE HELL WOULD THAT EVEN WORK ARGH. |

| How how how... Could Ples be a selkie? This is...wot. I'm so confused. HE DOESN'T HAVE GREEN EYES THO. Also, I fully condone this thread. Cause, y'know, HiNaBN's like my life. Srsly. In terms of your questions... I don't have a favourite. I love them all. ALL OF THEM. But I do have a special wee place in ma heart for Connie and Hanna. And Cas, 'cause I love minor characters and he's kickass. BUT I DO SERIOUSLY LOVE THEM ALLLLLLLL Ples. Hmm. I think he's a clockwork dude that's bound to time. But one of his cogs came loose and he's stuck in a time-loop of repeating ten years.
Yeahhhh... |

| That Ples theory is interesting. C= I think we pretty much all acknowledge that Ples is clockwork now, haha, though why and what it means is still ambiguous, I guess. But I like time loop ideas~~
(for the record, some of my terrible ideas on what Ples could've been prior to finding out the spoilers about him were veeery strange. Like, selkie!Ples is the most normal of them.) |

| Wouldn't be surprised if Ples is like a Mr Tiny like figure, from the Darren Shan novels x3 meddler with time/fate and whatnot.
Cus I'm boring, my fav characters are Hanna and {...} c': but I love all the cast. |

| IT'S FUNNY THAT YOU COMPARE MR. TINY AND PLES
Because I was reading the Darren Shan manga the other day and I was like 'holy crap, Mr. Tiny keeps on having all this clock motif stuff going on and it kind of reminds me of Ples'. And then I was like '... and Conrad and Darren are kind of alike, with the whole pathetic-vampire-does-not-drink-blood thing that they both have for a while'. And then I kind of tried to shut down on my whole HiNaBN-Darren Shan line of thought to prevent weirder comparisons popping up.
But it's too late because thinking about it again now is making my brain go SECRETIVE GINGER GUY = MR. CREPSLY = HANNA? and that's just weird. :/ |

Hurrr, Mr C isn’t really full of the joys of life like dear Hanna. But am glad I wasn’t the only person to see similarities with Shan and HiNaBN.
By the way, has Therese told you that I’m becoming you guys new best friend at Auckgeddon?

No, I've read the books too, it's just that I was flipping through the manga the other day since... that's what I found lying around my room when I was bored. xD
Also, Harkat reminds me of {...} because of the stitched-together-amnesiac-undead-guy thing, but in terms of physical similarities, 'stitched together' is about as deep as it runs. Personalities are kind of similar, though? |

| Ah, awesome. I always flick through the manga when I need cheering up x3 have you read Shan's other books?
Both have green skin and glowing eyes too. Yeah, they're both pretty satire. Harkat prolly smiles more though. You could also argue the point of both of them being human in their past lives, and their past selves being close to the main character. Latter doesn't apply to {...} so much, but one of my more farfetched theories is that Hanna was behind his murder, and houses {...} as a type of redemption- cus nobody is /that/ nice. But I’m probably wrong- would be nice plot twist tho.
Speaking of Harkat, little people in general remind me of the Prinnies from Disgaea. Both are human souls who have to repent for their sins by doing crappy jobs.
