Skimmmmpy~ By Aikome. 27/05/10, 02:14 pm |
| STOMACH BEARING COSTUMES.
Isn't it scary ~? D: I'm going to do my first one this year . .ANDIAMSUGARHONEYICEDTEASCARED. Because minimum clothing for beach and summer is different. It's not that I won't wanna do the cosplay because of it but . . .-shrugandflail- I'm fussy when it comes to making the costume and I kinda don't wanna ruin it with . . me.
So tell me; have you ever done a stomach bearing / pretty darn skimpy costume before ? Were you nervous about it ? bodyselfconciousnessyness. Would you foresake accuracy for comfort and alter the costume ~?
@______@; I'm not silly right? |

| Short skirts is the most it's been for me.
I'm thinking of doing Black Rock Shooter some time though, but I'll feel comfortable with a big black cloak. I'm doing magnet! Miku, and it's a strapless dress, which I find more daunting.
Lengthening a costume so that you feel comfortable is perfectly fine- even the strictest of accuracy nazis aren't gonna come out and complain you're not showing enough skin for a cosplay to be accurate. Just do whatever you feel better with. |

Re: Skimmmmpy~ By Tails. 27/05/10, 02:26 pm |
| I have, with Tifa & Ultimecia. (Revealing FF orz) I think it's perfectly fine to alter the outfit a bit to cover a bit more if it makes you more comfortable, luckily Tifa wears her skirt high anyway, & with Ulti I made the bit showing skin quite a bit smaller. With my upcoming Gria cosplay I'm making the 'hip armour' sit higher than it actually does, to save stressing all day about a 'muffin top' showing. Even though it's cosplay & you're essentially dressing up as someone else, you shouldn't walk out the door if you're uncomfortable in what you're wearing, I mean you wouldn't do that in normal clothes. I do get nervous about skimpy outfits at first, but then end up having so much fun at geddon I forget about being nervous at all. But I never forget to suck in for photos! Aha.... My advice, if you love the outfit & think/know you look good in it, go for gold. Just don't eat anything that day that'll make you bloated. xD |

| I'm completely fine with baring stomach for costumes, short skirts and showing ridiculous amounts of chest (that said I'd feel uncomfortable with underboob or massive amounts of ass showing haha). As long as you feel confident you look fine in the costume people will think the same think you do as well.
I would give up accuracy for comfort if it were something small (eg if I were to cosplay Yoko I would not have the underboob) but I wouldn't change a top from baring most of my stomach to none although I have no issues with others doing that. |

| I cosplayed Blair from Soul Eater, and I was VERY nervous about it ^^' I think its normal to be nervous if you aren't used to showing your stomach in public~ I had to lengthen the shorts slightly as they were just too revealing for me to feel comfortable in them ^^' its not bad to lengthen or alter your costume, as feeling comfortable is very important. If you don't feel comfortable and happy in your costume it will be hard to enjoy yourself! =P
wow how many times did I use the word comfortable.. |

| My Archer Viera had a bare midriff and mini, for the 1st ten minutes it felt weird, like I had forgotten to put my top on or something, then it was fine. It sounds silly but I think it helped that it was a hot day. |

Re: Skimmmmpy~ By Pyro. 27/05/10, 03:21 pm |
| I wore an outfit once that was meant to be midriff baring, and I wore a skin-colored shirt underneath. It wasn't very noticeable, and I felt a lot more comfortable doing that than I would've otherwise!
I think, if you don't want to sacrifice accuracy, skin colored tops can be a useful cosplay tool-- consider that, perhaps~ <3 |

| I did Bunny!Mikuru at Wellgeddon this year. I'm pretty self confident with how I look, so I didn't have any problem with it. The most important thing is knowing that you look great. Other than that, only go as far as you feel comfortable.
Second on the bloating issue. =_____=;; It really sucks being bloated in a skin tight/baring all outfit.
Also! Having a big warm long coat does help. :) |

Ohh~<3 ! I remember you there.
TBH, I wouldn't change a costume for my comforts sake ( I'm that picky =w=;; ) I'd rather modify myself, haha. I'll take note on the bloated/food thing . .^ ^; |

I agree... As soon as I find someone actually willing to pay me money... I do so hate this being poor thing...
On the up side, if the money is proportional to the amount of costume...

Re: Skimmmmpy~ By Rowan. 27/05/10, 03:54 pm |
| I was a bit worried about my Calintz pants even, haha, but I didn't even notice it once I was wearing them! (I was more worried about them coming unattached from my top and falling down lmao)
I also made my Kaname (FMP) school girl skirt longer, and although I've shortened it a bit more now (a longer pleated skirt is not neccessarily particularly flattering, as I found out) it's still longer than the way the character wears it.
I would definitely rather be comfortable than completely accurate. If someone is comfortable with a skimpy outfit then it looks great and natural, but the minute they're (visibly, anyway) self-conscious about it, it doesn't look good at all. |

Re: Skimmmmpy~ By _BlazingBlossom_. 27/05/10, 03:56 pm |
| I wore Kasuga from Sengoku Basara. I swear I was hyperventilating before I went on the stage for NZAE. It was the most scary thing I have ever done, but I am proud of myself in a way. Really I tend to get told that I wear skimpy things in general so cosplay probably isn't much of a change xD. But I think altering the costume to make yourself feel comfortable is a-ok :3. It doesn't have to be totally accurate down to the last detail. In the end you are wearing the costume because you like it and feel appreciation towards that character. |

| My skirts end up ridiculously short because chyeah I'm careless.
Koyuki was pretty much a gi with two slits in the sides. I didn't feel too self-conscious since i had a pair of tiny shorts underneath to assail against the wellington winds 83
but yes comfort over accuracy <3 |

| I wore Yoko at Wellygeddon 2009. THAT was skimpy. And fun to wear. My boobs weren't quite big enough, but that didn't really bother me.
I also did a Haruhi bunny cosplay Wellygeddon 2010 which was also rather skimpy.
....I choose a lot of skimpy costumes for the hell of it really. |

| Leeloo Fifth Element was mine *holds hands over tummy* that wwas brave. I am like "stuff how I feel." I'm an accuracy freak. Annoyed me that the suspenders didn't work out. However, if you need to alter the costume for your own self esteem this is also fine. No reason you shouldn't play it based on that fact alone.
Cosplay itself has many definitions and people do it for many reasons. Competition-wise accuracy seems key. But plenty of people simply do it for the fun of it or the LOLz.- Spoiler:
