48 Hour Costume Challenge! June 25th-June 27th 2010

You’ve heard of Extreme Wig Styling. You’ve even heard of Extreme Costume Making (and lately the addition of Extreme Gundam Making). But this time, we have the Extreme 48 Hour Costume Challenge!

Based on the 48 Hour Film Festival, this challenge - should you choose to take part - will see you making a costume in the time frame of 7PM Friday night, June 25th, and 7PM Sunday June 27th. If you work at the weekend you can do the challenge at the dates of your choosing as long as it falls before July 1st (7 days after the official start date).

This time, materials have been upgraded from newspaper and tape! As it’d be a bit too preposterous to source materials in the same weekend as well as make the costume, I suggest you start gathering up things as soon as you can- make a list and check it twice so you don’t forget little finicky things.

Unlike the 48 Hour Film Festival, you will know what costume you’re making several weeks in advance (and it’s your choice what to make). I suggest you pick something relatively simple, and one with as much pure sewing work- prop and armour making takes a while because of drying and curing time. This is a great chance to belt out one of those simple hall costumes you’re planning!

~~Date is to be confirmed- I’m thinking it will be in the next upcoming semester break (June 26th- July 18th) but I would appreciate feedback on a time that would suit everyone. Vote in the poll, yo!~~

Guidelines:
* No making until 7PM, 25th of June! Only collect materials before then. On the Friday night (25th), post a photo in this thread of the day’s newspaper and all of your unused, untouched materials.
* 7PM Sunday the 27th will see you posting a photo of your finished costume and the day’s newspaper.
* A week before the challenge please sign up & post who you have chosen to cosplay plus a ref pic. Or, well, it doesn’t have to be a week beforehand- just as soon as you’ve decided.
* It would be inspiring if you posted progress pics along the way.
* This isn’t a contest, it is a challenge: team entries are welcome, and no prizes will be involved. The race is against yourself!
* Try and pick something simple, and do try and get some sleep.
* Let your parents/spouse/significant other/friends know that this is occurring and try and rope in a support system. Having someone to occasionally ask how it's going or bring in a cup of tea does wonders. Even better, get your friends involved and make it a team effort! This is a challenge, not a trial to the death.
* Warning added by Mischa: BE CAREFUL WORKING WITH MACHINERY/HOT
GLUE/SOLVENTS/SHARP THINGS - missing a deadline is not worth hurting
yourself over.
* This challenge isn’t limited to just New Zealand – if you have overseas cosplaying friends, get them involved and have a Skype sewing party!

TLDR DETAILS:
What? Make a costume of your choice in 48 hours.
Why? Great chance to beat the procrastination on those easy costumes ‘you’ll do later’. You could also end up inspiring yourself with what you can do when push comes to shove. :)
When? June 25th-June 27th 2010.
Who? Yourself and that fiiiiiine sewing machine.

the sad thing is most of my costumes end up being 48 hour marathons...

Or could you do a group with more than 1 costume?

You either apply for leave or vote for an option where you're not working that weekend. Or split the challenge up over 2 weekends- just two Saturdays.

Not entirely sure what you mean by this- but basically you do what you want to do, the only "rule" is that it takes part in 48 hours. :)

I think I've fixed the poll - apparently 0.0 days is different from 0 days, and so the poll closed itself as 0.0 days had passed. xD

Given that it's in the holidays, is it permitted to do your marathon, say, from 7pm Thursday to 7pm Saturday if you're working on Sunday?
