| Okay! I know how I am going to do my armour - I'll sculpt it, mold it, and cast it in plastic. Easy way? Me? NEVAH! Added a link to the first post with a pdf how-to guide I found, which is a really good source of info. Covers molding rubbers and the pros/cons of each type, and has a lot of info about molding different shaped objects. Like armour.
Edit: dammit, I am going to need a shetload of clay! |

Re: WoW '11 - comp! By Sorien. 16/05/10, 01:10 pm |
| So, I think I'm gonna make a chicken wire/mesh frame around my body, then paper mache over the top, and then after that see about possibly either doing a clay thing over that, to seal it and allow me to decorate. The first two things (Mesh+Paper mache) are pretty much set in stone, but as for what I'm sealing it with, I'll experiment a little. It'll be interesting. |

| Doublepost with pertinent info - first post updated with a suppliers section for links. If you find a useful one, let us know! I also heard back from topmark, they put me on the right track with a silicone I was considering and gave me a whole bunch of literature. Very helpful! And mostly reasonably priced..unless you want prosthetic-grade silicone. Then it is RETARDED. |

| If you're after plastics and stuff http://mulford.co.nz/ is pretty decent, they're in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch, and Hamilton too. I'll dig out my supplier list when I get home on the weekend, I think I've got some more plastics ones as well as some foam (EVA etc) suppliers. I'll also say that Top Mark are real good, I get all my clays from there.
Also edit, I was messing with some WoW armour parts for a Geddon, I'll have to see how I go with the stuff for Auckland but I could probably crank out a suit later of some sort in the year

| Pararubber in Palmerston North are very reasonably priced (especially if you get the cheap off-cut rolls ($10 each and massive)) That's where I get my EVA foam from. |

| Static, you can probably put me onto the official going list now. I've actually made a start, what's more, I may have just found a shop that sells Wonderflex (well, at least basically the same stuff as it, but way cheaper XD), which may make my stuff even easier to make. I'll keep you updated, as to whether this stuff turns out well. |

| sob, i was actually looking at importing wonderflex for another costume but it is SO ridiculously expensive (like ~$100 USD for a large sheet) that if there's a cheaper option i would leap on it like a hungering troglodyte. |

Re: WoW '11 - comp! By Sorien. 29/05/10, 02:46 pm |
| Like I said, I wanna see how it works first myself, and then tell you guys whether it's worth getting. From what I saw, it was about $6.50 for a roll that is about 20cm wide by about 5m or so. This was at Archibald's art supplies in Upper Hutt, I could have given the lady a hug right then and there when she showed me and explained it to me (This is like a self adhesive plastic which has a kinda gauze in it, you use it for body sculpting and stuff). So again, I'll reinforce, don't get tooooo excited until I try it, and then see if it works the same XD |
