FREAKING amazing.

SOOOO anyone have bright ideas on how to make those fantastic head things? 8D? After browsing through Coscom for about five minutes I've found two basic ways- mesh/chicken wire ala here or cardboard of some kind as you can see here. Thoughts?

I'm still a maybe. I'm unsure on our abilities to make an epic mascot outfit as of yet.

I made mine from a foam mattress topper with polar fleece glued to it - it was really comfy and soft Very Happy

The problem with that is that I 'm kinda probably moving to Chch next year, so marathoning at your flat might become difficult

I reckon we should make them all in the same way (since there's like, hoop skirt, covered face, non-covered fact, etc)

Or at least have the same face xDD. Guys might not want a hoop skirt 8Db

So, anyone agree? And then which one do you think is best?

THE GUYS CAN HAVE HOOP SKIRTS. but yeah, we should all make ours in the same way. i'm kinda keen to try mischa's method actually, but make the face out of a sheer you can see through and then put the rest of the features on with felt?

Similar it's the sort of foam you have in a foam mattress. You buy them to make your horrible hard mattress slightly softer.

Like- a whole roll of the foam with space cut out for the head? or just one layer in a circle? or... what?

nah, you'd just cut out a rectangle, fold it into a cylinder and glue it shut, then cut a hole for your head to go through. at least, i assume that's the way to do it. except i think we should have uniform dimensions so we all look relatively alike...

It should def. be easy enough to tell everyone to just get a square Xcm by Ycm for the tube. (Do you remember what size you did yours, Mischa?) The bumps on the end shouldn't be too hard either really.

Now- to scout out cheap foam in Chch.

If we're doing hoop skirts, how are we going to do the hoops to keep them uniform? (sorry if this has been covered, cbf rereading thread to find out. |D)

bumps on the end i was thinking salad bowls. i always end up using salad bowls in mascot cosplays... spinel sun's helmet was made out of two. ;o;

ummmm, a uniform diameter? though i don't really think we'll need to make the hoops uniform... it's the head's that'll be the most noticeable. as long as the pinafore thing the cousins wear isn't y'know, like 2 meters in circumference idek 8D

Yeah, when I asked that question I didn't actually go and look at a ref pic - they're smaller than I remember. xD I wonder if I can use garden hose for the hoop...

you can disconnect hula hoops, can't you? just pull it apart for travel and reconnect it when you get there. then again, as i have not hula hoop'd recently, i can't say this fo' sho'.
