I would assume the cosplayers would be serving in character? Like, a bossy character would boss them around, a meek/timid character would be shy and nervous?

I am probably going to get lynched for going against the tide, but honestly? NO!

Please god no, atleast not at Doujin Overload.

To me DO has always been about the artists, having cosplay on the sidelines was nice, but last year proved that there is such a thing as TOO MUCH cosplay, atleast at an event that is supposed to be about the artists.

Something like this would rock at Armageddon though, and I really hope you have a chat with Bill about it.

hrmmm //agrees wtih zeb to an extent even if this is my idea =w=;;

i honestly dont want to shift the focus of the event
in fact we'll keep this outside the actual hall (if possible ...) and open only at certain times.
my idea was that even if people are attracted by the novelty of being served in cosplay. if we happen to be closed and since this is free entry they might as well take a look around as well.
i will still broach the topic with seong though as its his call on this <3~

and someone has talked to bill about it before ... for auckgeddon but he has been reluctant ... and i can think why (supplies, resources, space, when, etc) mmm we shall see how this goes 83 <3~

but thank you for reinforcing the point though ... we seem to forget sometimes ...

to come up with ideas for an event or attraction as such. i have been the one to organize that small part for the past two years and yes they have always been dances hence the want for change. i still want to keep one or two >> probably one

but hmmmm ... more thought is needed on my part as well ... to me its a fine balancing act between having something to attract the crowd (something novel so to speak i guess) and yet not shift the focus of the event ... somehow =w=;;

EDIT: and i may have a solution for this overflowerage of cosplayers some people have (well its not like i dont see your point of view but im a cosplayer so chyeah 8D <3?) as well as having the cosplay cafe

now to convince seong that itll work ...

@Zeb, I'd also like to point out that, Doujin Overload is somehow like a mini Comiket right? And Comiket is about the artists and such right?

But Comiket is also famous for its cosplay. Cosplay itself is a form of art too. :/ Just expressed differently.
Don't tell me you haven't seen the amount of cosplay photos that come on the net the day after a Comiket. :/

But yes, I can also see your point. And Alena has pretty much answered the rest of my response. =w=;;

Rolly of course I see your point, but Comiket is a massive event with HEAPS of space, Doujin Overload is not. Lets be really blunt with that one. :)

The reason why I thought there was too much cosplay at last year's event was not in terms of events, but the actual cosplayers themselves. They were everywhere. Taking up space and making LOTS of noise.

I totally get the excitement etc. etc. and while I love cosplay in general, they drowned the event out, literally. I couldn't access some tables simply because of how much space was being taken up by cosplayers sitting around, fangirling, posing etc.

Which is GREAT. Don't get me wrong, but Doujin Overload doesn't have the space for all that, atleast not in the two locations that they've had it, and when I go to DO, I go for the art.

Kagerouhi I like your idea about actually having it outside of the main room, that could totally work. :)

re: Armageddon. Bill just needs to know that an idea is well planned and fully resourced as far as mature, onto it people. Go to him with the plan worked out, the reasons why it would be popular and how it could attract people. As clinical as this sounds, approach it as a business proposition, he'll listen.
Trust me, when we raised the cosplay comp, the amv comp and the anime day at the event years and years ago, he was iff too... but if you can show that you've got people who're willing to make it work, that you've got everything planned out and examples of how this would be popular, he'll bite. :)

Alena, how about we have this at NZAE as well...? Just an idea, dunno if we have the resources for it. Thought it might be suitable there as well.

@Zeb, oh yes, that's one crucial point I forgot. There's just simply not enough space. D: Maybe if we had a diff section/room for other non-artist concentrated events...?

I just have to jump in and say I am not very keen on this idea at all. I mean. Good luck with it, and I hope you are able to work things out, but I can see it causing problems at an event like DO and it generally doesn't interest me at all >>;
