SPCC Fabric and Cosplay Supply Swap Session! March 7th *updated* By Mischa. 05/02/10, 08:18 am |
| One person’s trash is another’s treasure especially when it comes to cosplay.
Got three meters of yellow PVC you got on sale gathering dust in the back of your closet, or a kilo of red sculpty you never used? Or that pair of white boots that pinch your feet? A box of 1980s bridesmaid dress patterns in size 24? Well this is good because now you can swap it for something awesome at the SPCC super swap.
Entry is a gold coin donation
DETAILS: Time: 12:30 - 2:30
Date: Sunday, March 7th
Location: Toi Pōneke Arts Centre, 61 - 69 Abel Smith Street, Te Aro. (just up the road from real groovy) http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/arts/centre/artscentre.html
How does it work?: We'll be exchanging cosplay supplies with each other using play money or tokens.
There will be light refreshments served for a small fee so we can cover room rental.
Here are some guidelines.
Patterns
-Make sure all pieces are included, if any are missing note it on the envelope.
Fabric/Clothing
- Have any Stains/flaws marked (stickers are good for this).
- If you want to be super awesome (and you can remember) note down what it is and any special laundry requirements – i.e. Dry clean only)
- If you live in a smoking household pop it outside to air for a bit (or fabreeze it)
Other
If you are swapping paints/gesso/glue etc make sure they are not all caked up. No-one wants that, not even your Mum.
please drop us a line to let us know if you are coming. spcc@cosplay.org.nz
The Fine Print!
- All submissions to the swap meet will be assessed to maintain a minimum standard of
quality.
- Items that meet the standard will be exchanged for 1 token to swap on other
items.
- Items that do not meet the standard must be taken away, or if you have no desire to keep them may be put into the ‘free to good home’ area.
</li> Tokens cannot be redeemed or exchanged once the event is over. Any items not swapped will remain with the SPCC and will be presented again at future swap meets. The fine print:
No warranties apply to any items, express or implied.
Items given up for swap become the property of the SPCC until swapped with another attendee or if un-swapped will be held for the next meet.
Tokens have no monetary value, and are only valid at the swap meet of supply.

| Well it looks like I'm going to be able to come, but I might not have enough time to do a sort out and decide what I want to contribute to the cause. How can I get tokens to buy things if I haven't donated anything? Or is the answer "you can't"? |

| Pretty much, you can't - we want everyone to be able to get somethign out of it, but to do that you need to be a good sport and bring somethign else along. And most things are useful - a decent bag of scraps can be one item, or cheapie mockup fabric (though probably in a larger quantity). It's all useful! |

Re: SPCC Fabric and Cosplay Supply Swap Session! March 7th *updated* By Static. 07/03/10, 09:08 am |
| Our surprise!celebrity guest was artist and sculptor Kim Graham, who invented and patented the digitigrade legs being modeled by herself, Mel and Kelly. The legs are being produced in Wellington now with some support from Weta, hence the logo on the legs. AND THEY ARE FREAKIN' AMAZING!!!
Sadly though, only shorties could wear them. My legs were too long, and Gemma's were juuuust too short. I WANT SOME SO BAD. Also, I fangirled when I twigged who she was. I may have frightened her a bit. |

| omgsocool. o_o I am so, so, so intensely wishing that I lived in Wellington right now. It looks like you guys had an awesome day! By surprise celeb guest do you mean that she was a surprise from the organisers, for the guests, or was she a surprise for you guys too? :O |

| Surprise for everyone! We had a dismal turnout from people actually turning up with stuff to swap, but a few people came through to see what was going on after seeing the article in the paper. Kim and her hubby were two of those people, got to chatting, went away to grab the legs and came back :) It was awesome! |

Re: SPCC Fabric and Cosplay Supply Swap Session! March 7th *updated* By Keysha-chan. 07/03/10, 01:28 pm |
| You know what the sad thing is, Jess? People from Auckland and even Christchurch show more interest in the events we work to put together than the Wellingtonians. XD
We even had someone from Christchurch visiting the city come in with stuff to trade, and left with new things too. :3
I understand some people can be busy, or sometimes the word doesn't fully spread around - but it's hard when you work hard on these and there's little support from the local cosplayers here, who do ask for things.
We also need this support in order for the ball to be sucessful (it's part of our fund-raisers and such).
Which is why the people who did come, even just to look and not swap, were awesome and supportive.
I'm not nagging on others in the region or anything, I'd just love to see the same enthusiasm down here as you guys have up there. ;P
(we're talking about maybe organising a mini-swap sometime around the Auckland ball by us Welly SPCC commity, if that sounds like it might work? Since several Aucklanders have expressed interest. :3) |

Re: SPCC Fabric and Cosplay Supply Swap Session! March 7th *updated* By Mischa. 07/03/10, 01:47 pm |
| Is there anything we can do to increase turnout?
We had lots of fun, but the turnout was really tiny! I'm keen to know how we can organise events that interest Wellingtonians.
What stopped people coming?
1. The location too obscure? 2. Timing, was it too close to 'geddon and you were busy sewing/crafting 3. Timing, Sunday afternoons are when many people have work 4. The idea wasn't appealing or too complicated 5. People didn't have anything to swap 6. People didn't know
Suggestions so we can do better next time? |
