| I just got back from the cinema and can say, this is easily the most visually stunning movie I have seen in my lifetime. Bestest movie I've seen in the last 5 years... and before that I can't even remember what was on my top list. Actually has a really good (even if slightly predictable) plot, to get you engaged with and caring about the characters- which is where Transformers 2 dissapointed IMO. But the lines between CGI and reality were transitioned so seamlessly, the landscape scenes so epically awesome... the guys at Weta did us proud, and would be robbed if they didn't get an Oscar next year. Compared to the LOTR trilogy, this takes things to AWNL!!!! (A whole... 'nother... Level!). Honestly, you have got to see this movie. I'm gonna go again, then check it out in 3D to see what that's like, and will definitely get the special features DVD when it comes out. Wow. |

| It was gorgeous and wonderful and all that, and the effects were great, but...
... I was more focused on Trudy the entire time. She was totally hot. xDDD
-Pyro: pervert extraodinaire-
That said, I saw it in 3D, and oh my god, the little bits of that tree? The ones that looked like jellyfish? Totally kickass. <3 And the crowd scenes were dizzying. *0*
3D FTW! |

| Avatar was freaking amazing. The plot may have been mediocre but it was fun, served it's purpose and was still engaging. Effects were AMAZING. Totally made me want to learn latex. Also the Na'vi language... Exists... 1000 words long and it took a linguistics professor 3 years to create apparently.

| Avatar was SO PRETTY.
Plot, basic and predictable, but still enjoyable.
BUT PRETTY. SO SO SO PRETTY.
I saw it in 3D, which I've never been a fan of, even as a kid, but it was still PRETTY. |

| Very very stunning graphics wise, I left quite impressed.
I will agree the plot was very predictable but I enjoyed it none the less.
Definitely will be buying it on DVD. |

Re: Avatar (by james Cameron... not the Airbender) By Le_Saboteur. 20/12/09, 01:36 pm |
| I don't know if I'd call the plot mediocre. Basic, predictable; sure, but that story (Fern Gully, Pocahantas, you know what I'm talking about. They're even reminiscent of Native Americans) will always be a good one. Leaving the plot basic gave more room for character development (very few movies can have both and still be enjoyable). And this movie had great, well realised characters. The story had pretty good progression as well, nothing felt slow or rushed. Action. DRama. Romance. Woo!
This was the first time I've ever liked Michelle Rodriguez in anything
The effects were so amazing. It's worth seeing the movie just for the visuals, though I don't think I could sit through another 3 hours of it in the theatre. I wasn't really prepared for just how beautiful it was.
It was such an experience. This will be a movie that warrants buying a Blue Ray player (read: PS3) for. We saw it in 3D, but after the first 30 minutes it didn't feel noticeably 3D.
10 years well spent, James Cameron!
Also; DINOSAURS SAVED THE DAY! physics YEAH! |

| I want a pet Taruk now! And does anyone else think "the people"- apart from being very similar to the Native American indians- have a little bit of Maori in them? Like the scene where they did the hongi as a greeting? I wouldn't be surprised, since Cameron was down here working with Weta so much. |

I lol'd, mostly because the plot is nearly the same as Dances With Wolves. |

Re: Avatar (by james Cameron... not the Airbender) By Le_Saboteur. 21/12/09, 01:05 am |
| Yes, Dances with Wolves! That was the other movie I was thinking of.
There are lots of different influences in the Na'Vi, I think. I got a very African vibe from them, especially with their language/accents when they spoke English.
Oh wow, Neytiri was played by the same girl who was Uhura in the new Star Trek movie! Her nerd cred is through the roof, now.
I think Michelle Rodriquez just plays herself. Like Sean Connery or Samuel L Jackson |

| Your not in Kansas anymore, your in Pandora !
Sorry heard it on the radio..
Heard rumors that the 3D version plays with your eyes a little bit and that you have to take a long break after watching it ?, Think in one Christchurch cinema they offer breaks halfway through lol.
Isn't keen to watch the movie, though would be very keen to win that PS3 with the Avatar competition with Mc Donald's. ^w^ |

| Yeah It messed with my eyes a lil... Didn't need a break though. And there was one girl who ran out halfway through to be motionsick in the bathrooms Lol. So yeah. If Cloverfield made you ill... This will be worse. Watch it anyway though |

| My eyes and stomach were fine. It probably varies from person to person. I had no problems with Cloverfield either, though, so... IRON STOMACH, HOORAY!
The night forest was my favourite thing about the whole movie... so beautiful. |

| I saw it whilst I was in Hong Kong (yay for t being released there at the same time). I am now making my sister take me today (and dragging my parents along) for my birthday WOHHHH! Have to wait untill I'm back in Wellington to see in in 3D (am really looking forward to that). Yes the Plot wasn't the most original....but it still felt fresh in my opinion, it didn't turn into one of those movies that is only good because of the visuals. I will definatly be getting this on DVD (possibly blue-ray) |
