URGENT UPDATE, PLEASE READ!!!
Okay, so there was a little issue about booking of the venue, but it's all good now. Outside the TSB Bank Arena (Wellington Armageddon venue) there's the Under the Sails. And it's totally official now - we've got it booked! Mucho thanks to Rita Francis of WCC (and my mum for helping me with the official forms amongst other things) for getting us this venue at such short notice!

The last cosplay picnic was January 26th, 2008 and this year we had the Ball at the start of the year. I think the original plan was to alternate it but we can have more than one cosplay event a year, right? (Of course we can!)
Also, those of you that came to the last WCB, if you would give some feedback it would be great (more gazebos, use of megaphone etc. etc.) Even if you didn't come last time, offer ideas anyway!
Friends, Romans, Cosplayers, lend me your ideas!

Things that need to be sorted:
Date (and time)
Date is going to be Saturday, 23rd January 2010. We... don't really have a raindate, I don't think we had one last time ;; It's difficult to work with raindates, since people gotta change their plans. Time is probably going to be similar to last time, 10AM to 4PM (sufficient I should think). Last time was super-gorgeous weather so I hope it'll be the same this time (weather is usually settled around then). Backwards rain dances again, people!
Venue
It's official, our new venue is Under the Sails (in front of TSB Bank Arena, Welly'Geddon place). However we'll need to advise the Council again on this. Out-of-towners (and even locals!) make sure you know how to get there and stuff. Later on I may put up a link here for information on bus and train timetables around this time!
Ride-offerers: motivational (from Palmy-North)
Events/Games
Last time we had a very few 'events' (Tug-of-War, prizes, Hare Hare Yukai dance session - brilliant intro skit which was rehearsed half-an-hour before starting!) so this year it'd be great if there could be some input on the matter. (LARPing was suggested to me but I'm afraid it could be dangerous as what if a random little kid runs by just as you're taking a swing??! D8). Cosplay chess and trivia games have been suggested. We had some theatresport type games last time, which was fun (I especially liked Machine haha).
Events: Walk-on-thing (strut yer stuff bro's)
Games: Tug-of-War (will need rope again), Theatresports (Machine, Spacejump etc.), piñatas, dance off(?) [May limit after this, less = more etc.]
Intro skit thing
Like last time's intro play (twirlytwirly hahaha) was FFVII's Gold Saucer play (god that was fun) Marian suggested next time's intro play be FFIX's I Want to Be Your Canary, however new ideas are always welcome. Would you like something canon? Original? Based on a fancomic (FFFFPERSONA)? etc. etc. Feedback here! :3
Those willing to make fools of 'emselves 'Cast': [not yet. will get back to this later!]
Memorabilia?
This would be a great idea. Last time I believe it was a cute cheap pen ahaha //fail It seems like the cheapest, easiest and friendliest option would be the making of misanga/friendship bracelets, with little tags reading 'Wellington Cosplayers' Picnic '10' attached to them. If we estimate sixty-seventy people coming (overestimate to be safe) then we can have six or seven people making ten each, or three or four people making twenty each? (This could be liable to change though, depending on what else may come up!)

15/01/10 Finally! Whew. [Here] is the album with a bunch of patterns from my little book (all of them except the basic plait, which I'll assume you know already). Click the 'Oldest' option on the side to get the photos in the right order.
Be interesting with some of the designs, heck even mix a few together. It looks really nice when you use Mermaid Beads for a while, then switch to a regular plait, then back again. :) Quota is twenty bracelets each. Another tip - don't tie it into a loop when you're done. Just leave it, since you don't know how wide someone's wrist is going to be. That being said, be reasonable about the length you make the bracelet at.
Report when you have obtained threads and when you are making, etc.
Photography
As I recall, I think this was the first time we ever met JP. Hey, we can mark an anniversary xD While last time we had a few guys running around with cameras (...repressing memories of a certain other photographer here). Anyway, it'd be neat if we could have an actual photography part where people can get photos of themselves looking super-spiffy (or acting super-silly) in their cosplays. I nominate JP and Static, who else agrees? ;)

This was pretty low-budget last time, haha ;; Also, we had very few categories. Probably something worth exploring? Also, may need a small group of judges here to judge off to the side while people are running around playing tug-of-war. Volunteers?

- Best improvised cosplay (open to those who threw their cosplays together within a week of WCP)
- Most colourful cosplay
- Best prop
- Best closet cosplay (NB: this does NOT count pulling out an old cosplay!)
- Most likely to die of heatstroke (given a hot day)
- Most likely to catch a cold (given a cold day)
- Best male cosplay
- Best female cosplay
Shade
If it is super hot like last time, you'll want sunscreen (I recommend the spray-on type if you're gonna share. Just... spray onto your hand, THEN apply to face. Not spray on face.) and maybe sun-umbrellas. Cancer Foundation does lend out things like Gazebos and sun-umbrellas for free (hooray!) so we'll probably have to snag some of those, though Static has offered to add to as well. Like I said before, weather is usually settled around late-January - by which I mean it doesn't go rain-shine-rain-shine-cold-hot, but mostly shine-shine-shine-hot-hot-SUNBURN'D. So be prepared! I'm sure that's a song. Wear Sunscreen!
What to bring
Food for sharing, your cosplay (although you don't have to cosplay if you really don't want to), friends, family, fellow cosplayers, groundsheets and/or picnic blankets, folding-chairs?, cameras, sense of humour, sense of fun, sense of spontaneity, sense of taste, touch, sight, sound, smell aaaaand the most important! COMMON SENSE. (A bit of decorum, please, as we will be taking the public by storm! I can't raeg on about this enough lol. But I know you guys will be good kids, right?). If you expect to be making more friends then maybe an address book for MSN, cellphone or (heaven forfend) facebook adds? 8D
Food
First and foremost about food, if you are bringing home/baked goods, then please know exactly what is in it!! You must know what you used to make it down to the last drop of icing. If it has been bought then keep the ingredients close at hand! Also, while you are making homebaked stuff, reduce the risk of cross-contamination by washing all the utensils you use thoroughly, before, between and after making separate foods. (This is not a strange or out-of-the-blue request if you know me.) If you have allergies, bring your own food to be safe. If you are not sure about the food, don't eat it. Additionally if you don't want to bring food to share, that's okay, just bring your own. :3
Now, delegation of food-bringing. To minimise the chance of having a 'chip convention' (//snortlaugh) lists are here for people to offer foods to bring, for super-variety-ness. But don't bring too much, otherwise we'll just end up having an overload.

I know Pura has (several times now lulz ilu pura) offered her assistance on organising the WCP for this upcoming year as well as motivational - and I'm sure a few others have as well, but please do state if you're super-willing to help out! Last time we were organised like, six months in advance (since it was originally planned in the middle of winter then subsequently postponed, hahahaaaa ;;; ) but this time there's no knowing what might happen! I mean that in a totally positive way, btw 8D"

OK, reminder for all, you've got about 10 days left at the current pricing. After that it goes up (and will keep going up to the door sale price).
Since the earlybird pre-sales price of $30 is about as low as we can realistically put it, even for SPCC members, we've come up with another alternative.
For SPCC members only ($5 membership until 31-Mar) - you can pay a 50% deposit on the ball ticket (currently $15), we'll hold the pricing for you, on condition that the remainder is paid within 4 weeks. This offer will only be open until 15-March in order to ensure all payments are received a minimum of 2 weeks before the ball.
This payment is not refundable if you change your mind or are unable to attend for other reasons. Transfers to other SPCC members however will be considered provided sufficient explanation is offered - this must be done within the 4 payment week timeframe.

Sadly, I won't be able to come to this one, but it sounds like it'll be just as good as last time~~~
I'd say that you'll be fine with the same number of things to do as last time. It was nice just being able to sit around, enjoy the sun and chat. <3 Maybe add in one or two more games, or just have some optional fun stuff, but really, it is good to just have a casual picnic with everyone. |

| I would love to come along! Thesis Hell will probably prevent me from doing so, but I will try! Also wont be able to help with any prep, although I would love to. 
As for events and stuff: I think it was a good amount last year. It does depend a lot on how well we anti-rain dance, because it was sooooo hot last year we would have died if we'd tried to be much more active. We could open the floor for more skits? Or how about a cosplay chess for the lulz? Or cosplay checkers or whatever  I know a bunch of good games that involve throwing eggs around, and a bunch more involving throwing water around, but cosplay + egg tossing =  . Frizbee?
Possibly a bit more organisation on the food? Because last time, every message I read was "everyone brings own food OR ELSE" and so my clan did, and then we got there and everyone was sharing.
The gazebo was amazing. I vote yes on the return of the gazebo. But I don't think we need a megaphone. So long as we get access to the electricity again, we should all have a gay old time!
All in all though, I second Pyro's it was just fun to hang out! |

| Huzzah! I shall attend. My costume is almost done and my dog will be cosplaying with me. I'm planning to bring tons of home-baked goodies because I love baking... and sharing with friends. =3 I'm flexible with dates, so whatever works. Also to anyone in Palmy, you're welcome to snag a ride with me if you want to go!
Cosplay chess would be great. I love karaoke, but it seems like skits and such are too embarassing and haphazard with this few people (you are more encouraged to practice and take it seriously at big Cons...) More loudness with the mic, yes yes. Gazebo was the best (yes, I thought I was going to melt!).
Hhhhmmmmm... I'd be willing to organize something like a trivia game. Might have been better for a ball/a place with electronics. But I've done that kind of thing with just paper. Put people on teams and let everyone participate in Jeopardy style fun.
Would organizing some kind of annual memoralibia be possible? Like a little bracelet, sash, toy or trinket that says "Wellington Cosplay Picnic 2010?". I could sew a basket of little plushies if need be.
I'd like it if there was an organized photoshoot of individuals and or more photographers who make sure they get -nice- shots of everyone... then upload images to match people with names, costume, etc.

Or even little phone charms with beads spelling WCP10? Or stickers even? The Verboom Badges stall at 'Geddon had the 'Cosplay New Zealand Wellington/Christchurch/Auckland 2010' badges which were super-neat (all the Wellington and generic ones were sold out when I got there... gah), though permission might be needed from the person who came up with that idea... (not to mention money to order things in the first place!) Feedback please!
