Hey guys,
Just for something different, I thought I'd ask - do any of you make your own music? What kind of stuff do you do? Any good examples?

I "make music" I guess...But not really in the way you mentioned, I think. I compose music (using my belov'd Sibelius 5) and it's really my obsession. Well, full stop, music is my obsession. Though I compose concertos, and suites, and classical stuffs which probably isn't as cool as your stuff (which awesome, btw I downloaded some songs from your website). I plan on studying composition at uni...

Does that constitute "making music"??

I also do a bit of composition, and I'm working on some songs for myself to play on piano. I would totally write music for a band if I was in one~ But I'm not.

if you have no apple with garageband.

Singing is winsome!

Update on the whole "not writing interesting music": I wrote a piano song. I sing in it (albeit horribly C;) and I recorded it. I'm quite proud.

Also, another deviation: I memorized a piece with SIX FREAKY SHARPS. I feel happy and needed to announce it to the world. Very Happy

As for writing music, I write parodies... grab a tune, match it to topic I'm trying to learn. Haven't done one in a while but I'm keen to get back into it.

But wow, I'm glad to hear we've got some real talented muso's here.
I remember using Sibelius in high school, linking up a keyboard and playing it straight so that it wrote everything up in music.
My flatmate had garage band, it was okay, but Im not gonna get a Mac for it. The only thing I can afford is Audacity (which is free).

You know what we should do? We should collaborate! Why don't you guys write/compose something, record it and we could each add our own tracks in a chosen instrument? Like that telecom ad that Chefu did a few years ago.

xD I ish addicted to sibelius 5. ^-^ My friend writes lyrics and makes some chords to go with it and I do the drums on a computer program called Hydrogen. We make a pretty awesome team.

YES. Collabs would be totally awesome. I'm pretty good at orchestration and all that stuff... In regards to the practicalities or recording, etc? Not so much. But I really do want to learn. Too many songs, so little time... Nice voice by the way Does anyone here MAKE music? Icon_wink

@Sockcat- why don't you kick us off in a collaboration then.... how bout a 16bar melody? Put it in MP3 or wav form and send it to me. I'll sing some lyrics or something, add a few guitar chords, then pass it on to someone else to add another 16bars or so.

Very cool, EXCEPT... I don't know how to do that at all. I have about no computerish talent at all. I could scan sheet music or somesuch, however. Is that ok?
