Kanon (2006) By DarkGaia. 16/12/09, 12:10 pm |
| Tell me, if you took fruits basket, the meloncholy of haruhi suzumiya, and parts of shakugan no shana, nd added them together, youd get this!
I thought, this anime was THE sadest anime I have ever seen, I have only just finished
Its brilliant, the dialog, the dub, the anmation, its just soo sad T_T
What did any of you think of it? |

| Better than Kanon (02 - Toei) and Clannad, but Air was probably still a notch better.

| NOOO KANON IS BETTER THAN AIRR.....
;D You know, I'm going to force you to watch Kanon sometime. Believe me, it will make you cry like a baby... not that it's better than Clannad, Clannad is really, really, exceptionally good.
The licensers were so confident it would sell, it went for 2 episodes a disc. Actually. I wouldn't buy it like that, but... |

| Makoto is full of win, but I'm a Mai fan. Seriously, I play her theme on the piano like WHEN I PRACTICE WITHOUT FAIL. SHOUJO NO ORI FOR THE WIN.
It's so beautiful... <3
The visual novel is also very good, and I'd recommend it for anyone who likes Key games... though of course, if you liked Key games, it's likely you've played it already xD |

| Character-wise, I'm a fan of Mai as well. I'm a sucker for stoic types in general.
I can't actually remember most of the soundtrack for this anime, though. All I remember is the OP, ED.... and Hurry, Starfish (Which... isn't from Kanon.) OTL |

The licensers were so confident it would sell, it went for 2 episodes a disc. Actually. I wouldn't buy it like that, but... 2 eps a disc is pretty standard for R2 (Japanese) DVDs, really. That and each volume could cost you 6k yen (for 2 eps, gawd)
However, for me, Air > Kanon > Clannad.
Clannad didn't strike me as much overall. A few episodes really stood out, but overall, it wasn't as memorable as Air or Kanon.
Also, ARIA got me sad probably more times than Kanon... but ARIA is ARIA... XD ORIGINATION US RELEASE 2 MAR (offtopic) |

| Hurry, Starfish is Fuuko's theme, and she is a prominent heroine in Clannad.
Not for US dvds, it's not. It's more likely to be 3-4 episodes. However for english, they licensed it as 2 episodes per disc.
What is special about Clannad is probably After Story. It's an extra mode, kind of like unlocking Refrain in Little Busters!.
It's honestly, honestly, a really sad story. I often felt confused with AIR, it never really had any moments that I felt were special. Of course this is coming from someone with a real addiction to school life stories. |

Well, I don't buy DVDs that often. Rather manga from Taiwan, cheaper XD |

Oh yes.
They did. The barstards.
Visual novels seldom have a real manga counterpart... I have seen several 4koma for this sort of thing though. Mainly Clannad... Clannad has a really meaningful story, as does Kanon. However I think magical girls and other worlds are played to even further extremes in this series. I just never mentally got the hang of AIR, so I prefer the other visual novels of this series... |

| Air was about timeloops, reincarnations and paradoxes, so yeah... probably better for people who like confusing/long and deep storylines (looks at Eva and Legend of the Galactic Heroes respectively)
I liked MOST of Kyoani's works anyway. Except lolwut Munto... was kinda bad |

| Paradoxes are good, but timeloops? Only for Little Busters.
Sadly, I didn't feel like the storyline was particularly long, it might have been quite deep, but I was a little put off by how the whole thing progressed.
Though I really, really enjoyed Eva. |

| Actually, I was put off by the fact that she was voiced by Tamura Yukari - (because I'm a seiyuu tard and I knew it was her right off the bat) - but really, in the end, I felt like it kind of suited her, so I wasn't so focused on why her voice sounded a bit... off.
>_> Sunohara Mei is a better choice for her. We all know she does that kind of voice better... and of course, Michiru, from AIR. |

| Hurr hurr, I watched Kanon 02 first, and that was before I knew seiyuus properly.
Yukarin has 2 types of voices
the "Light" voice - like Mei, Michiru, her happy/childish voices nipaa~ the "dark" voice - Stuff like Mai and Bernkastel, dark Rika
One thing about Kanon 02 and 06 is that I liked Sugita as Yuuichi better. Since Sugita is awsm. |

| Sugita is probably one of my favourite, favourite, favourite voice actors. Ever.
He doesn't seem to have much of a range, but he's so expressive and winsome that he's just as popular as he should be. Sexy voice person.
Out of the voice actors, I really like Makoto's voice actress, Iizuka Mayumi, who also voiced Misty in Pokemon ;DDD |

Anyway, I thinks there are lods of great dubs out thar It depends on how either: 1 - your taste is when it comes to watching anime. Many people are simply too lazy to read subtitles, and so deal with dubs as it comes. 2 - you feel about the original voices and acting comes in terms of importance to the show. I have mentioned this, but I am a seiyuu tard and I can list, just off the top of my head, probably about 30-40 of them and at least 2 roles they have under their belt. 3 - you might enjoy listening to anime redone in english, because sometimes in japanese, there's a lot of understanding that you might need beforehand. If the subber group is lazy, they might not be considerate enough to put in side translation notes, etc. So, attempting to remove some cultural difference.
Now I'm very, very picky about the voices I like to hear in dubbing. Actually no, I dislike hearing dubbing in the first place. There are at least 15 DVDs in my collection that are licensed that I haven't even attempted to watch dubbed.
Edit: There are some noteable dubbed voices that even I could say were quite accurate: Asuka Langley Soryu was well done, I think, but the only well dubbed voice in Eva, imho. Actually, off the top of my head, I think that's about it for me. It was accurate. |

HA. HA. Me. Listen to the Kanon dub. HILARIOUS. IT'LL NEVER HAPPEN
I believe the show's originality stems from the voices and such that are used. Like with visual novels, or even drama CDs, the voices are just so, so vital to the building of character in people's minds. Especially mine. If the voice for someone is really, really wrong, I'll throw the disc out the window and go to watch Kannagi or something. <3 Seiyuu. Seiyuu are amazing. I can rant about how much I love seiyuu for pages and pages. |
