well, the fabric paint i used for my himawari kimono + most other things was really good and it had a lovely texture-- but it's extremely physics expensive at like $9 for a small pottle, so i just figured i'd try acrylic. i find the acrylic paint dries a lot harder than the stuff i usually use & i'm terrified of cracking... OTL

I see.... o_O Maybe I should do a set of test swatches. What brand of proper fabric paint did you use?

the setacolour brand you can buy in spotlight. acrylic is fine if your material won't be under any stress/is nonstretch, but if it's stretchy, then def. go for fabric paint.

Re Fabric Paint; I use the Setacolour as well, but I get from Gordon Harris. It's only $8.50 there and you may be able to get a 10% Student Discount.

Also the little pots go way further than you'd expect them to XDD

quote for truth. yeah they do last ages... spotlight is def. the most expensive place to get them, though. so like azeria said, try some artshops (i did find an artshop in dunedin that sells them for like $7 but yeah. the acrylic is free so i'm being a cheapskate)

Started the paint job on Claire's apon skirt thing today - will need at least two coats of paint to get a solid silver. :S I am beginning to freak out a bit about how much work I have to do....

Found this NZ website, and it looks quite good (anyone think not? >__>) for dyes.

I need to dye fabric for all the bows (plus pompoms, and the top of the sleeve frills).

I want the bows to be the colour from that ref, instead of the official art work picture (this ref has it as a purple, rather than an off-black).

Assuming this website is good for dyes xD, should I go with the deep purple?

(However, some of the samples look a bit ... tie dye ish :/ )

Also maybe violet and deep purple?

Well, Spotlight NEVER has the right colour. And I can't find those small $4 pots in supermarkets any more ;A;

Nah, the little tins are getting hard to find. Pete's Emproium has them, so does Goldings sometimes...the dye fix though seems to have disappeared for good. You can substitute soda ash, available from Goldings, to use as a fixer.

Just emailed Tillia - I need sodium alginate, and am having issues with getting it locally...

EDIT: VIOLET LOOKS GOOD.

Yeah, I can't get to Pete's Emporium >__> Mum refuses to drive to Porirua. I wanted Papermagiclay, which I heard they had, and got a friend to get some for me, but it turned out to just be heavy clay that dried in air :/

I'll try looking in Goldings for colours then. WHY DID THEY GET RID OF THE SMALL POTS? ;A; I liked those D:
