i'd say it's separate to the kimono. make the kimono as per usual, and make the juuban (the secondary kimono that usually goes underneath) with that pattern, at least for the lower half. or you could cheat and not make a juuban, and just make it so that you have a skirt that has that pattern on it.

in other news, himawari's kimono is almost finished. 8DDD just the collar to go!

AND THEN THE HANDPAINTING STARTS OTL;; luckily there are heaps of fabric paints going really cheap on trademe atm. i got 30 bottles for $20. best. bargain. ever.

You can basically screenprint anything so long as it's a fabric that can be ironed (you have to iron the ink to set it permanently). The only thing that will differ is the texture due to the weave - wider weaved fabrics CAN look pixelated, apparently - but my organza capes are about as wide a weave as you can get, and they didn't look pixelated to me, so I reckon it'd be fine. Very Happy

i just spent 2 hours sewing on orange lace to himawari's collar by hand. was going to use white originally, but found the most adorable orange lace trim in a shop in chch for only $3/m and it was really big lace too. ;A;

am very pleased with how cute it looks...

Oh, damn. I thought we wanted her soul. I was close!

I found the perfect beaded trim for the bulk of the dress on Ebay - I'm just unsure whether to get it or not as it'll then have to match to the slightly longer trim on the upper part of the dress. Does anyone know of any good beaded trim places - be they online or irl?

well, the only irl shops that come to mind are spotlight and fabric vision and both are hideously expensive and overpriced. ebay is probably the best bet for value, but hrm. /looks around
