Hey everyone! I'm nearly done picking final images for the book, but I need some help deciding on some people's images. This contact sheet has the choices for each person I'm having issues with. If you have time, and if you want to make my day even better, you should totally help me decide Very Happy

Some there are only a couple of, some there are more. And if you're not on the sheet, you've already been got Razz

I don't think there's anyone who I haven't used as a final.

Pyro: 5423 - I think being in landscape really works for this picture, and it catches my eye as being quite different from all the others - I guess because rather than just being a picture of her, it's a picture of her interacting with the prop?

Mandie: This is tough: It depends on what your focus is. I like 5140 better as a photo, but it doesn't really show the costume at -all-. Given that (afaik) this project is a focus on the costumes as much as the people wearing them, I'd say 5174.

Shinrii: 5248, I reckon - there's more character to this shot than the other two.

Jen: 8593 is best in my mind. I love love love the pose in 8600, but the framing kills me - if it was just 5mm wider to the right it would be AMAZING - but the cropping of the toes looks accidental rather than deliberate, and this bugs me insanely much. >.< *anal retentive design student* (Not that it helps now, but I would have loved to see this one as a landscape one, I think... o_O )

Twinlings: 9050 hands down. There's so much conflict between good!Alice and Evil!Alice - it's fantastic. The lighting helps a lot here - having Evil!Alice slightly shadowed really adds to the mood here (the photoshop dweeb in me wants to ask if you could tweak things to emphasise the lighting difference between the two characters, but I don't know if that's permitted within your brief or not?) 8999 is a close second though - such lovely smiles! <3

Haruhi Group - 8078 hands down in my mind - the way Alena is stepping forward makes it seem less posed - but also (OMG I ACTUALLY LEARNED SOMETHING USEFUL IN ART HISTORY LECTURES) in the series Haruhi is basically god, though she doesn't know she is. In Egyptian times, the carvings of the great Pharaohs would depict them with one foot stepping forward, to suggest power, as well as them leading the way. http://imagecache5.art.com/p/LRG/9/972/28LK000Z/pharaoh-statue-luxor-egypt.jpg is an example - can you see the parallel between the pharaoh and Haruhi? Furthermore (though I can't find an example of this to show you :< ), the wive/s of the pharaoh would stand behind him with their feet together - though Mikuru and Yuki aren't married to Haruhi (lol) they're her subordinates who follow her every will, and so contextually fill the same shoes. ...but yeah. That's why I reckon you should pick that one. sweatdrop

Lennon: Oooh, tough again. I think I prefer 7581 - purely for symbolism. Both have really interesting lighting, but in the series Lelouch commits many dark acts which he leaves behind him - though he takes many lives in the process, he continues his reign because he believes that he is acting for the greater good - looking into the light.

Mischa: 1_00 - Stunning lighting, brilliant pose, awesome colour contrasts. C:

These are my finals so far. Jess, that was marvelous, thank you! And critique is always wonderful, particularly given symolism in art...having never studied art history myself, it's fascinating, and bloody helpful! chuu~!

And my framin drives me nuts as well...I have a distinct tendency to crop stuff on the right and allow too much room on the left, it is maddening!!

Also - I'm not sure anymore whether it's about the costumes or not! And given that there's now no time to re-shoot, I'm going with the strongest images, rather than the ones that show off the costume. At least for the book - I did make sure to get costume ones for you lovelies though Very Happy

My thoughts:

Pyro: I'm stuck between 4989 and 5423. 5423 because it looks more actiony as opposed to just her standing there and therefore gives off a bit more character, but 4989, I dunno I just like the shot for some reason.

Mandie: 5174, mainly because it shows off more of the costume.

Shinrii: 5247, she looks so adorable in this photo

Jen: 8593, I wanted to say 8600, but I feel the shot is a bit too zoomed out. 8593 however has a good shot of her in the center of the photo and so it just feels like all the attention is clearly placed on her.

Twins: 9050, I like the way Dark Alice is positioned behind Alice. Kinda gives me the impression of a protagonist thinking of the antagonist in a comic with the image of the antagonist appearing in the background

Haruhi Group: 8078, Definitely this one. I feel the photo sorta stands out right at you by comparison to the other two. Also I prefer the bright lighting of it.

Me: 7490, Jess really made this one a tough decision for me to make after reading her thoughts on the symbolism of the lighting. However I look at 7490 and just think it looks more model-like, so I really like it

Mischa: 1_00, while the pose in 3718 is very cool, the contrast and lighting used in 1_00 is just amazing, like something you would use for a movie poster.
