Zack's buster sword By commandercandyfloss. 12/01/09, 06:17 am |
| I'm planning on making a Zack cosplay for the contest, but I have no clue how to make his Buster sword (from Crisis Core) T___T Help anyone? Like, what would be best to make it out of? |

| If you made it out of solid metal it would be pretty awesome/accurate. But then it would probably weigh about 100 kilos, so maybe not. And I suppose it wouldn't be allowed in the contest anyway. But that would be SO SO AWESOME.
I don't have much experience with sword construction, so please feel free to ignore my advice because I may or may not know what I'm talking about.
The best idea would probably be to have a hollow blade constructed around a plastic pipe forming the handle.
Perhaps try making the blade out of thick cardboard with a layer of papier-mache or resin on top. Or you could try and find one of those plastic real estate For Sale signs, you know those ones that are made out of some sort of corrugated plastic stuff. That might be a bit stronger than corrugated cardboard.
There's a tutorial for making a hollow wooden one here but it looks pretty heavy. But you could probably use the same process for making one out of lighter materials. Oh, and since that tutorial is for the FFVII version of the Buster sword I guess there might be some slight differences to the Crisis Core version (although since they're supposed to be the same sword, it would only be minor details I'd imagine.) |

| Thanks! The real estate sign idea is pretty smart actually, I'm gonne see if I can find one : D
I soooo wish I could make a metal one but gawd it'd weigh a ton. |

| Depends how much you want to spend. I've seen a Buster sword made out of a broomstick, a real estate sign and some vivid and it was pretty epic. It was also hot-glue'd back together at lunchtime (emergency cosplay kit FTW!)
I've also made swords out of paper-mache with a dowel down the middle and that worked great too. My sister makes her swords out of Balsa wood (available at all wargaming shops for cheap) and I think you could easily turn that into a Buster.
If you browse the forum a bit, you'll see Buster's a favourite, and this is like the fourth thread about making them. I think some of the other threads have tutorial links and everything. This is your project - you need to do at least SOME of the thinking! :) |

| I'm currently making a Cloud Strife sword.. but shaped liek Zack's sword. What I mean by that though is that it's not the complete Tsurugi lol. That would just be too insane. But yeah.. I've just gathered some planks of wood and carved it down to the blades shape and such. I should post some pictures o_O It's not done yet. Have to stick thee blade onto thee handle.. then paint. |

| The corrugated plastic that real estate signs are made of is called corflute. :3 You can buy corflute science fair display boards from whitcoulls at the moment (...I sold one today, lol) - but I don't know where else you could buy corflute from. I don't recommend nicking off with a for sale sign, lol - the homesellers actually have to pay to replace those. |

Re: Zack's buster sword By Guest. 03/08/09, 11:28 am |
| If i may offer some words of advice making a buster sword, I've got 2 things to say:
1. Make sure you have some freaking STRONG glue. and 2. Get a thick handle so that when it's attached to the inside of the blade, it doesn't snap or anything. UNLESS you aint planning on swinging it around, in which case I'll make a tutorial on how to make one this coming weekend, if anyone would want me to??
Lemme know ok? |
