Witch Blair's hat? By Crazy. 05/07/09, 07:56 am |
| So I'm cosplaying Witch Blair from Soul Eater at Chchgeddon next year, but there's one problem. The hat. How..? I've never made a hat before in any shape or form, and I have no idea how to make the spiral at the top stick up! ;_; ref pic;

| Oh gosh, I planned to do a Shinigami-sama this year but... the curly spikey thing stumped me lots and I put it aside as a future cosplay. ;w;
Try some wire...? Chooky wire...? DX
This might help... (lol Google!) http://www.ginabellousdolls.com/witch_tutorial_hat.htm |

| a top hat wouldn't be too difficult to modify, methinks? you'd just need to make a white button-on cover and sew on a brim. if you're okay at sewing it shouldn't be too difficult. (:

| You'll have a picture of my hat once I'm done later tonight...
Ahem anyway *clears throat*
Well... you would need a basic hat shape. You could do it two ways, you could either have it in halves like this:
With that you would create the two halves sewing them together, getting the round shape from that would be harder as you would have to stuff it right.
With the four quarters (which is my jester hat way) you can get an easier circle it just takes a little longer to sew.
With the actual hat bit you could either buy a witch hat or you could put some wire (As shown) and sew around that using backing to keep it strong.
And with the top I'd suggest doing something like adding wire up the inside once you are done sewing the basis. Then you can stuff the inside alowing it to keep it's shape as the picture.
You can choose to do 2 seams or 4 seams, depending on if you want a perfect round shape the whole way or not. You don't have to stuff either as long as you have wire up but I would suggest it for the top bit to stop it looking droopy.
Scuse my crap drawings and writing and general noobness...help much? |
