I want to make Asuka from Tekken. Probably the dark ressurection version
(black and red) as its easier to find than light blue..

Ahh, leather, how we hate thee.

IDEA: Use PVC!! Easier to sew, and gives a similar effect! It won't have the body or weight to it that it looks like you're wanting, but it'll make it easier for a novice to sew.

For the gloves you could get white gloves, cut off the fingers. Then get two pairs of red elbow pads and use one for hands, one for elbows. The black stuff you could probz get away with using PVC and some belty things on that?
The boots look like shoes with braces on them? So get shoes like that, the red socks with the black stripes at the top (rugby/sports store?) You could make the black stuff out of foam (the sheets that you can buy at the $2, I think you can paint them... somehow) and the rest looks like elasticy material.

For the boots and gloves, look at shinguards in sporting stores - might find something suitable, and then you can modify down from there.

I second (third, fourth, whatever..) the PVC advice - I found some matte leather-look PVC a while ago, it was cheaper than leather or your average shiny PVC by about ten bucks/metre, and it looks great :) I bought it at Spotlight in Hastings about three years ago...it may be a regularly stocked item, I'm not sure. Otherwise upholstery vinyl has the same texture, but I wouldn't recommend it - too havy. Would be great for accents on gloves and boots though Very Happy

Boots? Hmmm... maybe you should make a boot cover of sorts so it's possible to sew/decorate the details on? Sorry, being no help here. D:

I found a really light "buttery" fake leather on a fabric backing at Arthur Toyes early this year. You can see it in my icon to the right. I ironed it to interfacing and it was a dream to sew with.

Fred you are officially on my list of favourite people in the world. That's if you were not already, cause I never thought about it before. But tanning good. Have you ever done vegetable tanning?

A bit late, but you need to use the right needles to sew leather with a machine.
However you can hand sew it. Punch holes in using a sharp bradawl. Then thread the waxed thread through the holes. Does take patience and effort, but so does any hand sewing.
