| You did not get back to me with what flavour cookie you wanted. Normally I don't feed strays, but I like purrs so .... Oh Yeah (hey are you paying attention!) the ADHD thing, you probably forgot. Have you seen that scottish film about the section of soldiers we head into the woods, and die one by one? I have not seen it, so not sure if it is kilt wearing vampires, or wearwolfs. Not sure if Scotland has Banshees. |

Eat up quick before they get ninjaed. (Choc chip is my fav too.) No maybe not but it was a cleaver and mildly ammussing sig line of yours. I don't mean to offend you by playing off your sig. Sorry. As you can see above you brought up the purr, so if you are not a kitty ... ? Sorry about the stray comment, I just assumed nobody feed you, as you have asked every several threads for cookies. My bad. As for the purr, not bad. My (flatmates) cat can purr louder, but only if she really feels like it. Re: NAC MAC FEEGLES! Yeah fun. {Insert appropriate legal disclaimer here.} Reminds me of a you tube video of a radio station, two women, and a slaping contest. Why not just stab someone. {Ditto.} You useSabre as well as rapier, so I take it you are a fencer rather that historial recreationist? Well a proper little kilt is $800. ? a great kilt. But on trademe you can get a cheap light kilt for closer to $100. Good for action since you don't have to worry about damaging a $800 kilt. Have delt with an ADD kid before. Maybe I am the only person here without it.

| i wouldn't say over-achieving... i just like to make the most of what time i have so i cram everything in. |D definitely going overseas when i'm finished, my father is a teacher at technical college in wuxi, china... he's teaching physics & chem in english, and my stepmother & stepsister are both chinese.
i don't really have that much free time to watch/read stuff... it took me about a month to finish all 50 episodes of gundam 00 haha. but it was worth it. when my dad moved overseas, i inherited the biggest bedroom when my house turned into a flat, so my penguin/prinny just sort of sits next to my door. C':
& i'm from dunedin and have lived there most of my life haha. kinda keen for a change of scenery though i have lived in different countries. rofl i don't even want to think about how long i'm going to be at university... maybe five years tops, if i want to do a teaching diploma after. thing is i'm minoring in TESOL as well so it's just AUGH so much work. |

Re: Good evening By Highlander. 16/05/09, 12:36 pm |
| Yeah I have read that people think Gundam is good, but havn't really heard anyone talk about it. I use to say I would never watch a Mecha anime, as they are so pitiful compared to Battletech/Mechwarrior. If I want to watch kids run around having adventures then I don't need mechs. I would rather watch please tacher, love hina, or some crazy teen thing. However I watched Full Metal Panic. Read that FMP was the serious one and Fumoffu the funny one, but recon they are both funny as. Of course a fomoffu battle costume is awesomely funny. It would be as good as a penguin suit. Imagine a whole SWAT team bursting in dressed in penguin suits. (need to find TSR cheap.) Also have Gasaraki, although I have not seen it all yet.
I would love a bigger room, my DVD collection is taking half my room, and one wall of the study.
I would say 50 episodes an month, nearly two a day, is OK even if you did not have your workload. I mean do you sit and watch anime all day, or have a life. And I only have 300+ more discs to watch! |

Re: Good evening By Highlander. 16/05/09, 05:32 pm |
| 4EyedKing ---- -Highlander nice i want to do some other forms of sword work i think i would be more the speed type eg. rapier saber scimitar. Sword work is so painful to the wrists.
Well I guess speed is relative. I think that most reenactors are not the athletes, nor as exacting on technique as are fencers or martial artists. And shields, armour, binding, etc all change things. But speed is a good thing in all styles, doing a cut/thrust before your opponent has worked it out.
Anyway you were doing foil and epee or sabre? I don't really know epee. But where would you learn scimitar? Broadswords and even hand and a half swords are not that heavy, especialy since a longsword is used two handed, and thus easier to control than a single handed sword. Highland broadsword is based on charging a spear or musket formation, charging full speed ahead, and raining quick blows to each side as you go. The targe (sheild) had a spike so you could just slash right, stab left, slash right, etc fast as you went.
Rapiers may be lighter, but I find the length/leaverage worse. I assume you are talking of a steel rapier rather than a foil? I would have to strap my wrist, then strap the rapier to my wrist to be able to do it. It has been suggested to me to use a fibreglass rapier. |

| I do foil. Want to start saber though. Epee is like foil but the blade is longer and the target are is the whole body as well as having a larger guard. I have no idea were i would scimitar but i think it would be fun. When i say speed i meant more of a relative speed type thing. |

Re: Good evening By Highlander. 17/05/09, 11:20 am |
| Sabre would be great, then you could cosplay a hussar. mondo gold braid. Longer than a rapier, jeepers. I know some people, including me I think, would go for a shorter rapier as easier to handle. Foil people have a very light weapon, a smooth floor, and do lunge quickly, can flick the sword around binds quick. However all swordsmanship should be quick enough to deal with rapiers. Steel rapiers are fun beacuse they follow the history. Higher stance, no long lunges. However they also can use dager, cloak, twin rapier, sheild or other weapons in the off hand.
Rapier vs a sword with a cross guard? May not be so easy to escape the bind. The same techniques can be used against a rapier as any other sword, or visa versa. |

For future reference [: Evening little fruit.
Reference for what? I assume you don't want a pre 1600 version (cloak, no pleats), although women had more intricate paterns. A school girl kilt for a typical school outfit? There are instructions out there for putting on great kilts, ie belted bankets, so they pleat. As for little kilts, the modern ones. You of course need to import the proper tartan. Even though they are $800 from a kilt maker I am not sure what the heavy worsted wool tartan alone is worth. Generally it is worth paying a Kiltmaker to do it. I don't know of anybody who does it themselves. But I don't see any reason you could not. You can buy a limited selection of light tartan wool blends form shops. Or there is a aussie outfit selling light blended kilts on trademe for between $100-200. I am thinking of getting this one, as you can be rougher with it without worrying about ruining a $800 Kilt. You could also locate a kiltmaker (or ask you local scottish shop they will know the kiltmakers) and ask them. Remember the wide belt and buckle, and other garments to match. (I hope to go to a bealt makeing class at the end of the month.)
I may be able to give you links, but it would be useful to know what you want to do. |

Agree with the cold. Reminds me to order double glazing kit. CEA do a plastic that to tape to the windows, other wise I can freeze with the heater going fullblast.

| Epee is actually surprisingly easy it is not that much bigger then foil and is barely heavier. It also gives you a better reach without more weight. I want to try something like rapier or any weapon that can let me do double weapon. It just feels more balanced to me having something in both hands. Was going to kendo but haven't found some were to do it. But i should hopefully be in fencing comps by the end of the year.
Yay for Auckland being slightly warmer.
