Feelings about Karma By Guest. 09/04/09, 06:10 pm |
| Don't want to moan, or seem angry or anything..
But Feel that the new Karma system is rather, cruel.
Feel like that's it's going/ already putting people down or making some people in this forum feel slightly less-included because they have lower Karma, or - none at all. It feels like a popularity contest, some - most us, wanted to avoid at High School.
Shouldn't we all be equals here ? Shouldn't we all be the same and not feel that we have to change, and feel free to be ourselves without the worry of feeling judged by others ??
.. Feel like Karma is putting people higher than others, and we should really be the same and just treated like equals.
How would somebody feel lf they had 0 Karma points and everybody has had 2, 1, 8, 13, or 5 Karma points ?
It may not happen now, but it will happen in the future- somebody is going to get skipped among the line and he/she will feel- like ...crap..
It feels kind of shallow, like we are judging others for what they do, or what they like, what ''epic '' things they say or what anime they enjoy..
It feels like putting some people on a Olympic Ratio, and the others just down below. When before, everybody was on the pedestal, and we were just free to be ourselves.
.. Don't know it just feels wrong...
When Karma first came out felt the urge to give all friends Karma points, but they are all equal and just as great as each other... why should one have 10 Karma points and one with 6 ?, when in reality they are both as neat ?
.. Don't want to seem fussy, or cruel or anything- it took alot to write this..
..But don't want CNZ to turn into a popularity contest, or let others be judged just for who they are ?!?
Don't want people to seem - hated by other people here.. sure personalities clash, we can't all hold hands around the rainbow.... but just feel like the new Karma system is like a bully, it's - putting people down... |

| I reckon that, provided you aren't in negative karma, the system is pretty cool.
Really, it's not a popularity contest-- it's just a nice way of letting people know that they're acting cool, and if you are taking it seriously, encourages you to behave better towards the forums if your points aren't high.
It's a good idea, the way I see it, as it encourages nice behavior. C= But, ya know, that's just my opinion. I can see why people could feel a leetle intimidated by how it goes. ^^;; |

| I don't think it's shallow at all.
It's only shallow if you make it shallow. |

| Hey, remember that before they disabled negative karma, Kitten was all the way to around negative twenty. XD Popular in the wrong way? ;p
We're not a conventional community-- where in other forums people just give karma (or whatever they may call it in their own forums) based on helpfulness, I've seen people here give karma to cheer other people up or for saying something witty. As Kotone said, it's only shallow if you make it shallow.
I've received negative karma votes myself already, and while they make me sad, they only get me down for the few seconds I see them, then I move on.
As it is, a lot of us are pretty free with our karma, but as I see it, it's just a semi-serious thing here. Don't take it to heart if you don't have much karma. It'll come your way sooner or later. |

| Karma isn't really important. I just give someone a +1 if they're being helpful, or if they make me laugh. It's a good way to reward people for helping out. I don't think it matters who has the most karma, really its just a number. We're all awesome cosplayers here, and I don't think anyone will feel themselves above all the others if they have eleventyhundrred and we only have four. :) |

| Yeah, don't think too much about it.
As long as you don't abuse the Karma system in a stupid way, it's a great way for people to thank each other or + for posts that they liked...
It's not really a popularity contest, you see, I've only given out 1 or 2 karmas so far, and I've only given it to people I think that deserved my karma.
I don't give a flying frick about what my karma is, but if I get -'d, I'd know what kind of posts offends/hurts people. |

^ This.
Karma is just a little added extra on the side - a way of saying thanks to someone if they do something nice, make you smile, or just say something you agree with - it's not how cool a person is, but how you feel about what they do. That's why the little green/red bar appears next to the posts, not on people's profiles. If we wanted to say "such and such is cool" then you'd vote for them on their profile - but we don't. We want to say "such and such helped me" or "such and such said something funny", and that's why you vote on the post in question.
Having said that, we have got things in place to STOP it from being a popularity game - it's pretty hard to boost someone's 'popularity' when you only have one point to do it with, and you can't bully people with it because there are no consequences for giving someone negative karma (negative gives a +0) - in which case, if giving negative karma has no effect, then why bother wasting your single point on a negative when you could give a positive and make a difference?
The only way you could bully anyone with karma would be to send a PM to everyone saying "Hey, don't give so and so any positive karma" -- and in this community, I think THEY would get negative karma (plus an instaban for bullying) for saying as such. |

| Okay , guess was too scared about it and took it as the wrong idea.. [anime sweatmark ]

Glad it's not use for a popularity contest, and glad that we are all be equals here..
Thanks for clearing everything up ^-^
