Height and Cosplay

Should your height affect who you cosplay as?

If you're taller than most people, should you go for the tallest member, or if you're short should you go for the cutesy characters, or should you just ignore all height restrictions and go for it? :)

Though personally I think short people have got the best deal - they get to wear heels. XD

I don't think it really matters, but it does look a tiny bit silly if you are in a group and you are meant to be the shortest and are one of the tallest. But really I don't think it matters.

Being tall did not stop me from wearing four inch heels to wellygeddon this year XD I think it depends - if you're going to be in a group cosplay, you may want to consider it - but if you hate the character you're dressed as, that kinda defeats the purpose of cosplay in the first place. Mostly I think that it's up to the cosplayer - I personally am 6 feet tall, and feel absolutely ridiculous dressed up all cute - however my personal taste runs in the opposite direction too, so that could be all it is..maybe it's just that I don't like pink frilly shit. XD

yeah... it would look pretty fail if the good child was taller than the maniacal villain... [note to self: make sure Jess wears high enough heels for Rosso]

Well... In OrgaNZ, I cosplay the second shortest character and I am the tallest in the group. xD But I don't care. Occasionally it's good to be relative to the height of different characters.

(I'm the exact same height as Yamamoto. 179cm!)

I really don't care about height in relation to cosplay.

The only time I do is in a group for a cosplay contest, but usually then I'm safe, because I have a thing for tall characters naturally.

I think my nonchalance towards this issue is why I can choose to cosplay Kadaj when he's the midget of AC... x3

I think that cosplayers that look at least a little like the characters they play end up looking better... but it shouldn't stop anyone from doing whatever.

I think that some characters would look weird too big/small, but for the most part I don't think height matters too much...

It's mostly stuff like people with dark brown hair just look wierd in blond wigs because it usually doesn't suit and they have brown eyebrows and stuffs. (Haven't seen anyone dye eyebrows yet - sure people do, though... seems a bit far to go for most cosplays)

But yarr, right height is good, but doesn't matter too much imo.

Stabby - people do dye eyebrows, but it's usually done temporarily with eyeshadow or eyeliner to match a brightly coloured wig. Haven't seen blonde, though...

Hm. I prefer it if you're the same proportions of height when cosplaying with a group. But. Sometimes, you can't help it? It really depends~

Rawr! I don't think I suit blond but Becky tries to convince me other wise.

Hence why I am going to find some pale liquid foundation to do cover my entire face (including my eyebrows, ears, sideburns, neck, roots of hair around my forehead and stuff) and the top of my hands when I do Ken xD

And then draw on eyebrows!

Why don't you just use glue and paint? oO It sounds horrible and like it won't work, but it seemed to work very well for Kairi~ :)

I don't think it should matter what height you are. I am short (5 feet...) but I'm not gonna let that stop me from cosplaying who I want ^^ It may not look as accurate, but as long as you've put effort into your costume and you're having fun, I don't think it should matter. When it comes down to it no one can perfectly mimic what a character looks like, whether it be race, height, weight, eye colour etc. Better not to get caught up in things you can't change and cosplay who you want

Single cosplays shouldn't really matter. Still looks a bit silly if you're way too tall or short, but as long as the costume's properly proportioned, you should be sweet.

I do have issue with group cosplay though. You can fudge it a bit, especially with relative heights but the 1.4m person trying to look like 1.7m? Nooo...
(The closest I ever got to huge height differences was mama bear being taller than papa bear in a school play in primary.)

Wasn't there also a Sailor Man somewhere?
