| Sailor Bubba OH MY GODDDDD
If you're cosplaying alone, I don't think height matters, unless you're a super-tall peron trying to cosplay a chibi. Or vice versa.
With a group, I think it's better to choose based on the height of all the cosplayers involved and whether you can get shoes tall enough, ahaha. *SHOT DEAD* Butyeah. You can probably fake a couple of (or several, maybe) inches either way by creative use of angles and poses and such. |

| And don't forget posture! Really tall people can look about ten centimetres shorter if they slouch or simply don't stand up straight. |

| Ahaha.. Having that problem with our DGM group this year 0_0 EVERYONE seems to be taller than meeee. (And I'm meant to be one of the taller people)
I guess if you're in a group photo, the taller people could sit/slouch? Anything to make them look shorter.

Re: Height and Cosplay By Suixelo. 12/09/08, 06:42 am |
| I'm 4'9"... lmao. I prefer playing short characters, I haven't cosplayed much yet, but I come from an acting background so it's pretty much drilled into me that I have to look like, or at least resemble the character haha...
An interesting point to add to this discussion, that Disney parks have height restrictions for face characters, and you have to resemble the characters almost perfectly. I reaaally want to work as Alice, or Wendy, but I don't know if I'll get in because my boobs are too big for a 12 year old XD |

Re: Height and Cosplay By Pura. 12/09/08, 10:28 am |
| I'm ... 158cm =____= (We measured ourselves in Maths yesterday xDDD).
Which is annoying sometimes, becuse I want to cosplay Abel one day ... From Trinity Blood. Who is freakin' taaaaaaall x__x. And then my friend would go as Seth, and she's taller that me by miles, but actually supposed to be shorter than Abel D;
But I don't really mind about hight. If you're short and are cosplaying a tall character, then you become a CHIBI COSPLAYER!!! Like Madja xDDD.
If in a group though, I think it would be best if heights were roughly the same though xD. |

Re: Height and Cosplay By kyokyogirl. 13/09/08, 10:28 am |
| I think it's really cool if someone is the height of their character but I don't think it is essential. I'm 156cm and I ain't getting any taller so I don't let my height dictate who I want to cosplay. I just be a mini version
Of course I couldn't resist doing an Edward Elric costume |

| I know this makes me look like a bit of a cow, but I can get really fussy about this; I don't come from an acting background, but it's definitely drilled into me that there should be at least a vague resemblace between the person you cosplay and you. I prefer cosplays that are aesthetically pleasing; this doesn't so much apply to tall people playing short characters as people with faces like a cat's bum playing attractive ones. Though I suppose that's probably hypocrisy, coming from me. XD |

Re: Height and Cosplay By Xinaliia. 13/09/08, 12:33 pm |
| welll isnt this an interesting topic xDD
well...me being 178cm does put me in some thinking when deciding who to cosplay, but normally its okay...ive only cosplayed Misa from Deathnote and Lenalee from D- Grayman, and they are both pretty short...xDD i just dont like wearing heels/ boots when cosplaying coz i dont wanna look any taller lmao
but HOWEVERR since im doing Yamamoto from katekyo hitman reborn~ im at an advantage yeaYEAHHH xDD He is 177cm~ im just 1cm taller than him so ALL GOOD 8D
theres nothing i can do about my height so...i have to live with it
and being tall and ASIAN is something alot of people find veryyyyyyyyyy strange LOL xDD |

I BEG TO DIFFER : D I know plenty of over-15s back home who can pull off a really good chibi cosplay. Heck, I know some twenty-somethings who can do it. Not to be racist or anything, orz, but it might just be the asian factor-- roundish, more youthful faces and all, butyeah. Just wanted to point out chibi cosplay isn't limited to just.. well, the younger people. |
