Top Five Favorite Games
Post By Pyro. 14/08/08, 03:46 pm

What're everyone's favorite five games ever, and why, just out of curiousity?

Mine are...

1. Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core

Why?
Because it's sooo cute, and the characters are well made, and the gameplay is fun. =D I actually dreamed of there one day being a game with the exact same plot when I was like, seven, so its appeal to me is obvious. ;D And wings are seeexyyy. <3

2. Devil May Cry 4

Why?
Because it's the funnest game I've ever played. Come on, guys, don't you think the idea of grabbing a demon, tossing it against a wall and then keeping it in the air with some sweeps of your sword, then grabbing it again and BASHING it back down is total, utter, win? Oh, and the game deals with deep themes of what it means to be human and blah-di-blah. There're Shakespearean scenes and deliberate phallic speeches. Win. Total win.

3. Final Fantasy X

Why?
It's one of the most real FF games I've ever played. Tidus is a great protagonist, realistically flawed and one of the few who can walk the line between overwrought teen angst (Cloud) and annoying chipper-ness (Sora). Yuna is strong without being too tough to rely on Tidus, and Jecht and Seymour are great personalities. I hate the gameplay, but who cares when the story is as good as it is? Oh, and Seymour is a sexy b*tch. Yes, I admitted it. ;D

4. Jak II

Why?

It's the hardest game ever, but bloody hell, SO worth it when you unravel the plot. It's got excellent gameplay, even though it is the level of difficulty that makes me cry for hours on end and bite my controller (true story), and the characters are cool, if not very well developed. Plus, Erol's lines before the class 1 race... NEVER get old.

5. Psychonauts

Why?
Because it's hilarious. I don't need a better reason than that. Talking lungfish, green-skinned Germans, brainless kids, and a great protagonist. Swinging from poles and setting things on fire with your mind (I kid you not! It's my namesake- the pyrokinesis skill was always my favorite, so naturally, on the Psychonauts forums, back in the day, I was Pyro, and it stuck) could never be better than the way it is in this game. And the Milkman Conspiracy is deliciously quotable... THE MILK IS NOT READY, AND YOU ARE NOT READY FOR THE MILK!!

RUNNERS-UP

6. Kingdom Hearts
7. Valkyrie Profile
8. Dirge of Cerberus
9. Persona 3
10. Digital Devil Saga

1 - Final Fantasy 8

I never finished the bastard though - got sidetracked at the end of disc 3 (RIGHT at the end of disc 3) and never went back to finish it. As I recall, i tried to get to the bottom of the undersea research facility and spent so long there I forgot what I was doing elsewhere. o____o

2 - Devil May Cry 3

OH GOD, SO HARD. BAD GAME TO CHOOSE TO GET BACK INTO GAMING AFTER A 3 YEAR HIATUS. PAIN!! On a side note, the only reason I want a PS3 is so I can get DMC4 :3

3 - Soul Calibur 2/3

Both are awesome, really. I love 3 to bits, but it belongs to my ex - I bought 2 later and played it to death. Yeys.

4 - Shin Megami Tensei: Raidou Kuzunoha

How many times have I played thee through? Let me count the ways...

Seriously. Such a good game.

5 - SMT: Oh crap, forgotten the name...my ex stole it, but it was the future one set in the Junkyard...Oh! Digital Devil Saga? Anyway, sweet game.

...lulz, Pyro likes it too. Shoulda read that post properly XP

WOOHOO!
-clings to Static-
My fellow DMC3 faaan~ <3
DMC3 is my second favorite in the DMC series. I love using unlimited DT and slowing time down indefinitely. x3
But, on the level of class, and fun, DMC4 ups it, I have to say.
(And difficulty, too. F*CK, DMC4 WAS HARD. It took me over thirty tries to beat one of the bosses- yes, I counted.)

Soul Calibur is the best fighting game series ever, in my opinion. ;O
I nearly put 3 on my list, admittedly... It was so rad.
I freakin' love Voldo. He rocks my socks.

And YAY, a fellow DDS fan! ;_;
Most people've never heard of it.
Have you played DDS2 at all?
I've been trying to buy it lately, after watching some of the early bits of it on Youtube.
(Bwwaaaa~ It has lots of Gale in it. Gale is incredibly sexy.)

Heh, I've been playing games for so long that I'm not sure how to do this, there are games that I really really enjoyed during various times/years and/or are of vastly different genres, so I'm not sure how to rank them against one another, so I'll just put out 5 games I love(d) in no particular order.

Baldur's Gate II - PC

I avoided this game for a long time, but right from character creation really enjoyed it. Its just so big, but remained interesting, and I enjoyed the storyline and the characters (it did get a bit wordy at times) but I don't think I've gotten into/enjoyed an rpg as much as I did that one (though I enjoyed many of the other forgotten realms games, though other than BG2 and Icewinddale 1 I didn't finish any of them)

Rollercoaster tycoon - PC

Shoot me, I love economic sims, and rollercoaster tycoon is just so so so much fun, I mean, you get to build roller coasters and design and run theme parks~~! I wish I could enjoy the 2nd and 3rd ones as much as I did the first one, though for me, it has endless replay value (looks longingly at cds, I wish I had time to play this again~!)

Golden sun(1+2) - GBA

I've never thought a Gameboy game (other than pokemon, lol) could be so much fun, I really liked the storyline and the gameplay(puzzle/adventure/rpg ftw) and the battle system of this game, although I played it on my computer (>_>) I bought the first one, and I don't own a GBA (still) ^_^'

Star Ocean 2 - PSX

I really got into the story and gameplay of this game, it's one of the few rpgs I've actually finished (and played again), as much as I love rpgs, I never usually finish them ^_^'.

Halo 1 - Xbox

This is the first fps I ever played and enjoyed, alot! I was over at a friends place and her father was showing off their new xbox, I was sceptical about playing a shooter, but after a few hours, I went home and told my father to buy me an xbox for my birthday, it is what introduced console gaming to me, I also really enjoyed playing the game both on single player, and co-operatively with my friends/family, shoot the green arrow, right? Razz

Runners up:

Kingdom hearts - because disney + final fantasy + fun rpg = win
Various economic sims ^_^ - <3
Total annihilation - because some old rts's are just awesome
Warcraft/starcraft/diablo series - ...who hasn't gone there at least once?
Zelda series games - These games are fun, and my first Zelda game was awesome
Jak series - because they're so fun and everyone can get into them / play them
Final fantasy 8 (because it's the only one I've actually played more than half of Embarassed )

Just curious, but everyone's saying that they will play DMC4... Has anyone else actually played it other than me?

Or do we all just prefer DMC3?

... I'm feeling lonely in my loving of DMC4 as opposed to 3, now. xD

(On a side note, but did any of you who've played 3 go to Wellygeddon? I was cosplaying DMC3 Dante there. ;D)

VOLDO'S SUNFLOWER OUTFIT WAS THE COOLEST "I aaam a beaaauuuutiful flooower" I always made that comment when I played him. Annoyed everyone, plus I'm half decent at using him :/

anyways, I might as well add my top five!

5. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater

Metal Gear Series really stood out to me because it wasn't a typical shooting/sneaking game, there was a lot to it, and a great story that all linked in with every game, I have yet to play the fourth but would really love to Razz. Also really enjoy the espionage because it makes me feel awesome.

4. Tekken Series

So this isn't really a single favourite game, but the series in general, if anyone prefers me to pick a game it would be Dark Resurrection, but unlike most fighting games, Tekken has introduced large amounts of backstory to most of the characters, (also so did SoulCalibur) and I really enjoyed following it and making grudge-matches between characters if I was bored, and sometime around '97 they released a movie to go with it, and it told me a whole lot more about some of the characters, it was just really enjoyable to follow.

3. Final Fantasy IX

After I started getting into RPGs, I really enjoyed the older ones, just because of the general timeline they were set in, FFV was awesome because the job system kept me going for hours, my favourite being the Dragoons, but then when FFIX came out, it stood out heaps for me, because it was loosely based on the older ones, but this time it had... well.. Superior graphics.. It doesn't sound too right that it was one of my favourites for that reason, but it's the type of crap that I like, it also had an awesome story to it, like most of the games I favour, but I didn't really have any complaints about this game whatsoever, it was just plain awesome.

2. Final Fantasy VII

First RPG I ever played, I failed at it many times when I first got it, running from battles and not realising that levelling up is a very major requirement sometimes. But of course the story was brilliant, I'm sure most people agree, and I really got into it because I had bugger all friends when I first got the game, so I just "got to know" each character, and followed everything that happened really well.

1. Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver

The Legacy of Kain series seriously had one of the best stories to it, would've made such a perfect novel, but I absolutely adored Soul Reaver back when I was 14, I went through a Vampire/Goth phase where everything dark was awesome, and naturally this game had everything vampiric and demonic. I also just came to love the backstory behind it, dark medieval themes, and how everything linked together. I played the game a little too much and can recite almost every line of script in it. It was also challenging.. My all time favourite Game, and strange for me because it isn't an RPG.

Oh, Oh Fun !

-Number Five xd Street Fighter II

Street Fighter brings back heaps of memories xd Used to have heaps of fun going to the arcade. Got heaps of memories beating people up with Chun-Li and Ken, making fun of Vega's ''girlyness'' and yeah, memories..

Number Four- Chrono Trigger

This game is just really good xd The main character doesn't say a word ! It has un-predictable un-linear plot, and wonderful music, performed by Square- Enix's best...
The story line just wonderfully wrote, and it's just heaps of fun to travel around time- back to the middle ages !
Love the characters too xd This game problery is one the best non- Final Fantasy games, made by Square..

Number Three Final Fantasy IV

Didn't think that is game was going to be quite as good as it was , still shocked by it's amazing-ness.. The graphics have aged terribly, but who cares ? It's about the storyline, music, and characters...and Final Fantasy IV shows that, after playing this game after one hour, was already drawing character fanart..and wanting more..

Number Two -Sonic The Hedgehog 2

Love Sonic the Hedgehog, Favourite childhood game and tend to be bised and believe that it was better than most children video games, problery minus Mario who had a massive fanbase and was problery Sonic's major rivial..
Speed is addictive xd ;) Sonic, was a bit of a challage but had heaps of fun at the same time, the boss battles were heaps of fun and wasn't a chore, the bright-lights, the bonus rounds, and the cartoon !! Major Sonic Fan xd

Number One - Final Fantasy VII

Don't know why Final Fantasy VII is so great, brought the game by addicent and had no idea what was going on.
Though maybe being 9-10 years old and seeing that Cloud wore purple ( Favourite colour xd ) had something to do with it, also maybe because it was different from most other games being played before, that it was more interesting ? Also the characters were great, the music was wonderful, and Final Fantasy VII= Drug ...

There you go, a whole list on old-school-le-ness xd

Probably...
5. Soul Calibur IV (360)
Anyone who has played this game will know why, though Yoda is rather cheap -_____-;

4. Chrono Trigger (SNES, PSX, DS)
I absolutely cannot wait for the ds version of this, its an amazing game. Probably one of the first rpgs I ever completed. Too bad Squeenix keeps cranking out remakes. Chrono Cross was nothing compared to this.

3. The Ace Attorney games. (DS)
Yes, I know they aren't a single game, but you try choosing one out of all of them, they are all just too good.

2. Gears Of War (360)
Too bad my copy of this doesn't work any more, this game was excellent, and even though it was short noone can deny the fun of a Chainsaw kill. Anxiously waiting for the sequel. Not long nao ^-^

1. Final Fantasy Tactics A2 (DS)
I have a massive soft spot for SRPGS, they are just so much fun to me, and FFTA2 is definitely one of the best, and though its missing some of the best features of Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, I'd have to say this is my favourite game of all time. Of course it took an hour for me to come to decision, and it will no doubt change soon. For now, this is my favourite game.

Runner-ups:
Final Fantasy IV (DS)
Akatsuki, you should play this, the updated graphics are great and the fmvs are awesome, and theres finally voice acting (:

Final Fantasy VIII (PSX)
Guitar Hero 2+3 (360)
Grand Theft Auto IV (360)
Lost Odyssey (360)
Smash Bros Brawl (Wii)
DMC4 (360)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (Wii)
Fire Emblem Series

Theres too many more games for me to list. So many good games D:

5 - Pokemon Red
Call me old-fashioned, but I've never really gotten into all the New Pokemon. The first generation is still the best (and this applies to the anime as well.) Red was the first Pokemon game I played, and it's the only one that I still play on a regular basis. Magikarp FTW.

4 - Final Fantasy VII
When I saw the opening scene I was all "OMGOMGOMG SCI-FI DYSTOPIA!!" And the setting and plot of the game certainly was brilliant, I never knew that video games could ever have such original storyline and characters. And the soundtrack was great. And as usual, no one pays any attention to the laws of physics. Like gravity, for example. *sniggers at Sephiroth's fringe*

3 - Half-Life
It's nice to play an FPS where you have to think as well as blow stuff up. I guess that this is a result of the main character being a physics nerd rather than some genetically-enhanced supersoldier. Not only do you get to run around with guns and grenades, you get a crowbar as well! Which you can use to solve problems like that metal grating blocking the air conditioning vent!! And you get to wear a suit that automatically injects you with morphine so you can run around with a broken leg, a dislocated shoulder and appendicitis and not even notice! Yay for science!!

2 - Super Mario Galaxy
It's worth buying a Wii just to play this game. The controls are perfect and the level design is brilliant and the music makes me want to hijack the school orchestra. The often-being-upside-down hurts my brain but in a good way. I don't know enough about physics to know if the abrupt changes in gravity and the multitude of black holes are even possible, but frankly I don't care because it's that fun.

1 - Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time.
Best. Game. Ever. The happy childhood innocence of the Kokiri Forest, the slimy mutant fish-people, the humiliating/violating zombies, the terrifying Great Fairy, the intriguing well, the pirate-ninja-harem-girls, and Brilliantly Implemented Time Travel. And the dungeons....ohhh, the dungeons....
The perfect fusion of action, adventure, platformer and RPG genres.

Man it's hard picking favourite games...

5. Breath of Fire II (SNES)
Is and will always be, my favourite JRPG of all time. I've always loved the BoF world for its races and uniqueness. Plus it doesn't take control away from your characters as often as some games... *coughfinalfantasycough*

4. Fire Pro Wrestling Returns (PS2)
Yes! It's a wrestling game! Bite me. It's the best wrestling game, I can make over 500 wrestler designs and theres still space for about 120 more, I already have over 60 different original female wrestlers stacked in there Very Happy

3. Melty Blood: Act Cadenza (PC)
Fighting game based off the PC Visual Novel 'Tsukihime' features a good host of characters with varying designs and moves.

2. Ghost in the Shell (PSX)
Real fun to play. I can't get enough of it, more games need to be like this.

1. The King of Fighters 2002 (ARC)
A true test of my competitive nature, but the only place that has KoF2002 any more is my room. Soon I shall cosplay Leona and nobody will know who I am cosplaying!! ahahaha!

5. Medal of Honor Rising Sun
I like shooting games, this one had pretty good graphics but it was a little easy.

4. Kingdom Hearts
Only No.1 cause it had a stronger plot line and was much harder to beat (seriously that friggin desert boss was hard as and I still havn't beaten that clock tower one)

3. Chur my uncle has this one where the aim of the game is just to smash up other cars and gain the most money but I forgot it's name.

Seriously it's the most fun car game ever you get paid for smashing up cars X3

2. Spyro (All)
I still enjoy these games today they seriously just rock.

1. FFVII
Like lotsa people I spose X3 just a good game.

Okay, I'm TOTALLY re-adjusting the order on mine. <3
I've found a neeew looove.

1. Shadow Hearts: Covenant

Why?
Because Yuri is the most likeable protagonist I've ever encountered. He's troubled by his personal demons (literally-- he's a thing called a harmonixer, which can fuse with demons and other supernatural monsters to become more powerful, and change form to access new areas), but maintains an outgoing, friendly attitude, though, we learn, he still has problems dealing with how his powers have drawn unwanted attention to him and his friends, often leading to tragedy.

The story is heavy hearted and serious, but the game tackles it with a light hand and prevents it from becoming bleak, like other games with similar plots have become (Dirge of Cerberus, anyone?), and the gameplay is simply divine-- it refuses to let you tune out, like most RPGs do, so you actually have to engage whilst levelling mindlessly!

The other major characters are all very likeable too, with the exception of Blanca, Lucia and Gepetto, who all feel rather pointless, but hey, at least they can give you mild entertainment in pieces, right? The atmosphere in some areas of the game is oddly creepy, and the script is sheer brilliance.

And the plot? Well... To sum it up in a few words: Quoth Gepetto, "Yuri... I think you're screwed."

CHANGED TOP TEN RANKINGS FROM THERE (and an explanation for the other one I've added):

1 (equal). Crisis Core
3. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria

Why?
Lezard is divine. Positively divine. His motivations, his speech patterns, his dress sense, his thoughts, his powers... He is in every way a feat of character design. With the coolest goals since Kefka driving his path of destruction, and the most aristocratic American accent I have ever heard (props to Liam O' Brien), Lezard is definitely bringing sexy back, in a very twisted, nerdy way.

4. Final Fantasy X
5. Devil May Cry 4
6. Psychonauts
7. Jak II
8. Digital Devil Saga
9. Persona 3
10. Dirge of Cerberus
