| What's your biggest, "Why did I do that" moment with cosplay?
Choose the completely wrong fabric? Sewed a giant circle skirt hem without the bobbin in? Decided to spray paint over 70 metres of bias? Guilty of all the above. Share yours. |

| Probably the stupidest thing I've ever done is when I decided to begin Baby Doll's stripper outfit 3 days before WellyG without access to accurate rhinestones and literally spending those 3 days with zero sleep sewing sequins onto a goddamned silk sailor uniform.
I just... Why did no one shout at me and tell me that I was making a bad choice? |

| Deciding to use a craft knife to cut pleather at 8am the morning of Wellygeddon 2011!
I cut my thumb open in a backpacker's with no band-aids and then put my entire cosplay on with my hand BLEEDING EVERYWHERE and got to the con and spent fifteen minutes wandering around like 'hey hi haven't seen you in ages, such-and-such-- DO YOU HAVE A PLASTER. 8I'.
Why? Do I? Do these things?
Also, putting a contact in my eye after dropping it on a dusty floor at a photoshoot.
The word 'inflamed' doesn't start to describe the aftermath. |

| ^ Slack back-parkers for not having a basic first-aid kit.
Trying to make papermache look like foam, when just using foam was easer, quicker, better, and arguably cheaper (Glue and paint are Not cheap)

| ^Frankly, I didn't put much effort into finding one at the time, because I'd drawn on lightning-shaped eyebrows and I was wearing a black-and-white striped wig-- which was not gear I felt especially keen on talking to staff in, haha!
Nowadays I carry a box of plasters in my bag to deal with my legendary stupidity in these situations. So, at least I've learnt from my mistakes. |

| Uhhhh, let's see ...
Not wearing a wig for my first two cosplays 8Db Starting my Wellygeddon 2010 comp piece like two days before it was needed.
Not paying attention to the direction I cut my Miyoubi velvet out of ... the pile was going every direction ahahahahaha OTL.
Cutting jacket patterns like three sizes too big.
Buying polyester fabric with the intention to dye it (which ties in with my wellygeddon 2010 comp cosplay, as I dyed it the night before only to find out it didn't dye |DDDD)
I'm just going through all my cosplays and going "what did I do dumb on it??". OH I spray painted my Lia sword the day of my flight, and I took it into the cabin with me. I stunk out the whole plane with spraypaint fumes. I pretended it wasn't me 8DD;;; |

| Thinking that painting yellow over really dark blue on a prop would work out well...the day before the con.
I am only lucky that the prop was specifically meant to look somewhat bad |

| When I was making Battlers suit blazer, I was overlocking the sleeve, and the blade sliced a GIANT hole in the middle of the shoulder
Remade the entire sleeve, put it through the overlocker again AND THE EXTACT SAME THING HAPPENED I WANTED TO SHOOT MYSELF ( I took the blade out the third time learnt my lesson omg )
Oh and the first time I made Bunny's jacket I thought making it from vinyl would be a good idea. HA HA. |

| Not giving in to the futility of tying to make paint stick to the shiny side of foam. I thought surly if i just put enough spray paint and spray polyurethane on it, it will hold. Yea for 10 seconds.
So now im having to re-make the tongues for King kaz's shoes (this time with matte craft foam. What a waist of time and resources, And this is after i painstakingly transferred the logos vire hand cut stencils. RAGEFACE! |

| Also guilty of trying to overlock the shoulder and slicing off the rest of the sleeve underneath >>
I overestimated the stretch of the pvc I got and made the costume entirely to small.
Started my Sakura costume like 2 weeks before geddon and pulled about 4 all nighters to finish it with 4 hours most nights.
Overlocking my first sailor venus skirt and made it so short it couldn't be worn.
Procrastinating, too much. Even now. Gdi. I've probably done a lot more but those are probably the worst off the top of my head. |

| I am forever sewing seams backwards...it is the bane of my cosplay life and causes many swearwords.
Also when I was making my Sora (KH) costume I decided to wear the pants as I sewed the belt on...only to realise I had also sewn them to my underwear O_o Then whilst I sat down I decide to stick the needle in the pants untill I needed it again, O forgot about it untill I cross my legs and had over half of it sticking into my thigh ( again many swearwords) |

| "9 days? I can do a full costume in that time."
"5 days? It looks simple enough."
WHERE'S THE LOGIC??
The biggest 'why' is probably my Agito/Akito (Air Gear) costume. I made/wore a full vinyl jacket and pants under a wedding dress while wearing roller skates where the wheels were loosely wired in place. I only tripped once but I made it up a flight of stairs with about 8 people catching me from falling backwards 8''''''''''D (I'dstilldoitagainforanycostumehahaha..sob) |

| aside from the time issues mentioned in this thread, my WHY DID I DO THAT moment has to be constantly picking costumes i either can't see or move in. when i wore princess ashe to christchurch, it was a very tight mermaid skirt and i needed 2 helpers & 40 minutes to shuffle to the convention center from the backpackers...
also guilty of hotgluing things to myself that i'm wearing, thanks to the famous 'JUST BURN ME' video where matt hotglued my ashe headpiece directly to my wig (and ergo, my head). |

| Thinking black elastic would make for good bias.
Thinking I could sew through a hem after I hot glued it down. Went through 3 perfectly good sewing machine needles.
Cannot count the number of times I've ripped a hole in my cosplay from unpicking overzealously.
Making suit pants out of a jeans pants pattern.
Constantly over-estimating myself. |

| Sewing through duct tape - can't even remember why I would do such a thing, and I ended up soaking my last remaining sewing machine needle in nail polish remover in order to remove all the duct-tape-glue that it had become coated with.
Making a jumpsuit that fitted perfectly but had no vertical stretch/wiggle room, which meant that I couldn't bend over and had to rely on other people to lace up my shoes for me. |
