| How robust do you make your costumes?
Only to last the weekend, a month, a year, a lifetime?
Personally i don't expect some of my elements (like the shoes) on my King Kaz to last more than a day or 2.
Interested to hear other peoples design philosophy.

| I've never really thought about it, but you're right about things like shoes not lasting as long. I expect the actual sewn garment to last years, but all the fiddly armour bits always get busted up eventually in travel and storage, always bums me out when I find broken things. When I make props I try to make them sturdy as possible while being light, after the costume is worn those become decoration in my apartment |

| I sew things so that they're machine washable and try to make everything as robust as possible. Occasionally if I'm running out of time I'll say "screw it" and make something that might not last more than one or two wears but it's very rare. I see my cosplays as clothes, strange clothes that I only wear once or twice but clothes nonetheless and I like my clothes to last more than a day's wear. |

| I try to make everything as tough as possible. Shoes do tend to take a bit of wear and tear but as long as they're not falling apart then that's ok. I want my costumes to last for years to come |

| My sewn stuff always lasts as long as a store bought thing would, but things like props always fall apart, haha. I haven't made too many props, but glue just doesn't like me! (I've lost parts to cosplays due to glue falling off, lol)
Although with the cosplay in my avatar I was pretty much just hoping it would last the day I wore it, lol. That fabric hated me ): (taffeta, frays like no tomorrow) It actually lasted a lot better than what I thought it would! |
