Long time since last update, but in my defense I did move countries so...

Anyway, The Mask is getting close to finished. The pants need hemming and the suspenders are in progress. Then it's the hat and sorting out what I'm gonna do for the makeup.

So other projects for the next year or two:

Daenerys Targaryen, the outfit seen at the end of the Qarth arc.

So far I have bought some fabric.

The pink was a bit of a lucky find in Spotlight. I plan to use some metallic silver fabric paint to make it more resemble the show's dress. Faux suede for the skirt and I may need to get some more for the pants/leggings she wears under the skirt. If I could get some stretch suede for those I would be pleased. Nothing worse than wearing tight pants that have no give.

And the other potential project that has worked it's way onto my list is Bucky Barnes from the new Cap America movie.
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 Captai11
Never expected to like that movie so much, and Bucky is just freaking epic in it. The arm people. The arm. Dunno how I'm gonna do it but I'm sure gonna give it all I've got.

Bucky was just so cool in the movie, and I loved the 'look' with the mask and the arm and all the black leather and combat boots *swoon* The arm is going to be tricky but I have a construction idea which I hope works out, fingers crossed.

That pink was a really lucky find. It wasn't labelled/priced so it was with some trepidation that I took it to the counter and asked for 3 meters XD At the moment I'm painting some metallic silver paint onto it to give it a bit of shine. About half way through that.

I want to really get on with these costumes so I can wear them to Auckgeddon...Very Happy

Progress so far for Winter Soldier:

I think there are over twenty pieces involved in this vest. For a while there I wondered what I'd got myself into  sweatdrop
There's still a bit of work left to do on it, just little things, then I'll start work on the right sleeve for it.

As for Daenerys...wel I've finished painting the fabric and heat set it. But that's about all. I have a bit more enthusiasm for Winter Soldier at the moment Xd

Long time since last update; but at least I have some progress on Winter Soldier to share :)

Arm: So I used a base layer of lycra with some foam muscles sewn on. Then it was covered with some shiny spandex stuff I found on ebay. All the details were painted on with fabric paint. The red star ended up a bit too high up but meh, too late now XD
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P5174110

The fingerless glove was a bit of a mission. I used one of my own cycling gloves to make a pattern that I knew would fit over the spandex glove. Very fiddly work and I'm glad I don't have to make another Very Happy
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P7134310[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P7134311

Pants: Reference pictures were a bit tricky to find so I mostly used pictures from the Winter Soldier Hot Toy to figure out all the seams/details. And even then there wasn't a good picture of the back of them. The main details were:
-the pocket on the front
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P6254210
-the curved bands around the legs which were made from pvc and bound with satin cut on the bias. They were then hand sewn onto the pants.
As seen from the back:
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P6294310
-The knee pads. Made from scuba knit, cotton drill and interfacing then bound with satin. These are sewn to the pants so they won't fall down or move around and need constant adjustment.
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P7194410

Harness: Made from strapping and scuba knit. Then the back piece is wonderflex with some craft foam glued to it to get the shapes.
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P7194411

As for progress on Toph: so far I have bought almost everything I need too make the costume. Including some upholstery foam from ebay to make her ridiculous bun out of. All I need to buy is the base wig and some wefts. So when I've had enough of Winter soldier I can start on Toph.

Your arm looks fantastic!! I wonder if you can give it a bit of a weathering effect to make it look a bit more battle worn? The pants are looking good! Such neat sewing. How did you get the stitching around the circles on your glove to be so neat?? Magic.

Yeah I've been considering doing some weathering but haven't fully decided yet. If I do it and don't like it then I won't be able to undo it XD
The stitching on the circles was done by hand, no way would I have been able to do that with my machine sweatdrop

:DDD Sometimes with fiddly things like that you can get a better result by hand. It just takes longer but was probably less frustration than if I'd tried to do it by machine.

Weapons!

Belt:

So that makes the costume nearly complete, just have to attach one of the thigh holsters to the belt then that's pretty much it.

As for Toph; I am currently working on the wig. I never want to do a massive hair bun of doom again.

So Winter Soldier is now complete:
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P9214510[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P9214511

Entry form for the Auckland Armageddon Expo Cosplay Contest is also pretty much done at 31 pages.

_____

As for Toph, the costume is now done. I'm pretty pleased with the wig but won't be making another hair bun any time soon.
[Kyokyogirl's Sketchbook] Making it up as I go along... - Page 3 P9204510
The headband is a separate piece that ties into place. Fav part? The pom poms. I'll probably get a sore neck after wearing this for a day.
The rest of the costume:
