Sewing Mannequins

Hooooooooo it's been such a long time, o CNZ Forums

I've always thought those mannequins for sewing were like some sort of unaffordable luxury items that only full-time professionals have, but lately I've been seeing fellow cosplayers owning a few O.O

Can anyone tell me where I can get one? Ideally I'd like an adjustable one but are those available for under $100? LOL longshot, i know
Where do you guys get them? Do you spend like $150 on them every time ? sad

I don't really want to make one but my crafting skills are so horrible I know it'll end up bumpy and un-useable in the end >.>...

I'm really curious and I'd really appreciate some light on this! 8D Thanks!

Trademe

Otherwise relatives/family friends that might have one lurking in a cupboard somewhere they'd be interested in getting rid of.

You can also buy them from sewing shops, spotlight, etc. I'm sure some of the others will give you more feedback aswell. They do come in a variety of sizes, and I've also heard comment some brands can be a bit more suitable for certain body shapes due to the adjustment limitations on the dressforms. If you do end up with ones that a touch small you can also cheat by padding it out by taping foam to it to make it the right size.

Spotlight sells a large range of them, but they tend to be $400 8D;; But you can wait for a sale cause they do go down to around $200-250. Otherwise your best bet for a cheap one would be trademe.

Ah okay... thanks xD I've looked on TradeMe already but they're all still quite over my budget sad Looks like keeping a lookout there would be my best bet, thanks ^__^

Keep a trademe email alert for them :) I got mine delivered for $100 even. And it's a Purfex which is NZ made and of the uber pricey range ;)

I know someone just recently scored an adjustable for a similar price too :)

Male adjustable mannequins are a little rarer so will be harder to find for decent prices, but you can always pad up a form that is on the small size.

I got a fibreglass torso/arms for free which were just going to be thrown out after a shop refit. Not adjustable but you can't argue with the price! So if you know anyone who works in clothing retail get them to keep an ear out.
