Wig or Extensions?! (Specifications inside)

I figure I'm in the right place to ask this.

Next year for Armageddon, I'm doing a Shana cosplay from Shakugan no Shana, and I'm at a loss of what to choose.

Wig or extensions, they both have their upsides and downsides

Shana's hair: Long (I'm going with butt length because knee length is gonna ridiculous) Bright red and straight, here's a picture...

Spoiler:

My hair will be red anyway, so I can just dye it brighter. Currently it's shoulder length, maybe a little shorter with a side/cheeky fringe.

So the extensions:

They're probably gonna cost me about $200 considering the length I'm after.

I'm looking at extensions because if I can get them in real human hair I can re-dye them according to what I do with my hair (I may cut them a little shorter after)

The thing that's putting me off them is the fact I might not be able to get them long enough for what I need and how much it's actually gonna cost me, even though I could re-sell them after.

The wig:

Simple, much easier to get hold of and it will definatly cost me less

The problem is what the flip I'm gonna do with it after, aside from another long haired cosplay or if I cut it shorter, a red head cosplay.

I'm just wondering if it's just gonna sit there gathering dust.... I can't exactly sell it, because really, in normal conditions who really wants an extremely long bright red wig?

So thoughts and opinions? Which would be the smarter option, more usefull and such

I would go for a wig, it's much easier to handle and less worrying. :)
If you can, get a heat resistant one as it tangles less.
Try not to get a bright red, maybe try a crimson colour? You could always try sell it later, I'm sure someone will buy it eventually.

I would definitely go with getting a wig. It would be so much cheaper and easier to use. And i always think wigs look nicer for cosplay than real hair (real hair can work if you have really thick hair, but mostly I reckon it looks a bit flat, and anime characters have lots of hair Razz

)

You can always sell it in the market place thread here on CNZ, or find other characters with red hair Razz

Hell, I have a collection of close to 30 wigs that sit there and gather dust ...

I get what you mean about the lots of hair thing heh

From what you've both said I definatly see the wig as the easier option for me.
