Looks awful. Along with Gullivers Travels. I don't think there's a possiblity that it wont be awful. But at the same time I've seen a tonne of good adaptations so I dont instantly think..well Dragonball was bad and Yogi looks terrible, thus Akira will be sugar honey iced tea. I can use the same logic by saying, Dark Knight was fantastic and everyone else loved Scott Pilgrim thus Akira will be amazing. I'm just waiting till I see something more than an internet rumour and have the only lick of truth to it being that a studio owns rights to Akira motion picture.

But it doesn't matter if there is actually anything to understand. It matters if the Hollywood execs think there are, or if they think the audience thinks there is. They are less likely to pour as much, or any, money into something they don't think they understand. Or they don't think the audience does. Thats the key thing. Or maybe they just view it as another cartoon? Basically if anime movies start making lots of money then they will start supporting them.

On a total tangent, if this is going to be an american story set in NY, Zac Effron is hardly going to rock up and say, hello my name is 'Akira' is he. Maybe they will have to change the name!

Its gonna be based on the manga so Akira takes a huge role. Seeing as Zac Efron aint even cast im not putting any bets on it. Also being that the American release of Akira wasn't targeted towards kids in either its manga or anime form while DBZ was I can see to an extent why the Dragonball movie turned out the way it did. On top of that it is a confirmed adaptation of the manga where as the Dragonball movie was just a movie with the Dragonball name and charecters thrown into it.

I do understand that it may be a bit weird to have an american cast with japanese names in a thing set in tokyo so I can see some of the paranoia there but I don't buy into it. Even with all the bad adaptations there still hasnt been a move like that done that I've seen

I dunno. I don't think they're that bias. To be honest I don't think I've seen any remake or adaptation stray that far from the source. I can understand that on a level it would make sense to have it set in America if that actors are American but I'm still not convinced.

Um, well thats it. I think that Hollywood has worked with Asian stars enough now that I assume that using white actors means an american setting, which means an americanized script.

We shall if out if/when they ever do it.

I think we should start a thread about the movie adaption of the game battleships!

I dislike the potential cast really. But that being said its because what I've seen them in I either thought they sucked or weren't used well.. or the movie was sugar honey iced tea. Try guess who goes with what.

But that being said I'm saying that about a movie that isn't cast and nor is it even filmed. I always seem surprised with this sort of thing.
