Yeah I heard rumor of an american death note movie. But why, are American's so racist they don't watch Asian movies.
Yeah right, of course they do. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon anyone? And I'm sure they some of them watched Death Note too. Of course if it's all in the tradition of the Last Airbender Live Action Movie it will fail badly.

I guess in this case its different. Where with Akira they do say it is set in Tokyo. But again. The Zac Efron stuff its always just rumour. Its because they know it will create nerd rage and it does and I shake my head and burn down an orphanage. And no one blames me because they understand.

The original cast was Leo Dicaprio and Joseph Gordon Lovitt? (lovett?... however its spelt). But that fell apart for whatever reason and now is in development hell.. along with Death Note.. anything you hear will be rumour and its worse when the media buys into it (the Lovett part was strangely part true despite the report saying he denied rumours)

Anyway. I always get riled up that the cast always seemingly has to be asian. While I agree in this case I understand that in an american audience its primialry white and therefore white cast is more relatable. I dont tend to worry about cast beyond talent. Race doesn't bother me but seems to bother everyone else.

I dont care about the asian thing, I do care about the whole "Akira: Dancing in New York" thing.
The dude is going to have to suddenly become amazingly badass for me to even think of looking at him seriously.

They were going to do the same thing to the Gantz movie as well.

Why do it unless they can do it at least as good as the original?
Otherwise watch the original.
My rule for every adaption, ever.

And if you really want a american hit you would film with Hispanics, as soon there will be more Hispanics than any other group in america.

I look at the american film look at the moment.. see this gritty dark semi futuristic wasteland nonse....and then realise its perfect for akia..then i cry..a lot

Late Post.
The original (live action) wasn't so good,as most cross-overs are. But in my opinion, American FIlm companies/directors should leave well alone.

The film is semiconfirmed. A film company owns the rights to make it and a script is being worked on. Beyond that... Nope.

This whole "look at Dragonball evolution" thing is actually bugging me now. I'm unsure how one bad movie means you can't make any more movies again. I burnt my dinner once. Didn't mean I gave up on cooking.

After seeing Zac Efron in 17 Again I realised he's a good actor when not smothered with the new Disney crap. So I think he'd be fine. And $300 million going into this film? I'm looking forward to it, if it's true. Who knows? Could be good!

I didn't say they shouldn't make it, I said it shouldn't be done by an American Film Studio. Take the early vido games to movies; they were either done to cash in, or changed "to appeal to a borader audience", where the whole meaning was lost.
-However now the adaptions are pretty good.

Well I have seen a Japanese film set in Poland, shot in Poland, with polish actors, in polish. (Apparently it was cheaper to hire mean as military hardware, so he just moved the whole production there.) The quality and appeal of recent Asian films has been spectacular, so it would actually be good to see them do some of the new live adaption of essentially Japanese stories. Would be less jarring to see a Japanese movie with Japanese actors in Japan vs. New York with a token Japanese/American actor.
