| Common is good. Approximately how many meters should I be buying (keeping in mind I'd rather buy more than is needed than make a second trip!) |

so, the stretch net for the face/poplin for the facial features? we need to keep it circular as well so it follow the form of the tube, otherwise it'll look straight if it's just stretched over the opening for the face :9 hm. It probably won't lie completely flat, the tension and curve of the sides will help but yeah, it is likely to sink and flatten in in the middle. It may be a good idea to use a fly screen type of mesh behind it. I know I've seen some at my local Hammer Hardware so I'll see what colours are available. I've seen metal and plastic but I think the plastic was black which isn't so great. But could be painted.

| Just waiting for the photos to upload... but I found a pale not quite flesh not quite off white net! Woot! it is so see through it will need backing but being so see through it means pretty much anything will work underneath.
There is a time crunch, I have it on hold until tomorrow about midday so if there is a majority yes I'll get it. Good news it is all of $4 per meter which means it is a few cents each ;) I can also over dye to get a deeper colour if needed :) Super easy with a spot of acrylic ink and alcohol...
Also I can definitely use this over stretchy fabric to make miss rudie patootie |

| lol! Oh noes my secret fabric place is revealed!!! ;) Yeah if I wanted to keep it secret we wouldn't have had the meet up ;)
I have a sample but I am in the lounge and my scanner is elsewhere ;) It's your standard stretch net so it's got some texture but it takes a closer look to see the full effect. |

Re: 34 COUSINS? - Katamari Cousins Group -- Saturday '11 By neimhaille. 05/11/10, 01:10 pm |
| I think the consensus was polar fleece? Preferably non pil? It really is going to be the easiest to work with and find and the texture is going to be fantastic for the soft squishable look :) Like giant plushie dolls ;)
I think opaque tights were mentioned for the leggings.
I'll probably get some backing fabric for my nudie rudie from Nick's too as they have some nice dense knits in at the moment. I'll look for a dyeable one so that I can make it match as well as possible to the faces of the rest of you :) I will aim for a soft texture too so that any flash photography will still look okay.
Oh for the Auckland sewing workshop day, I have a couple of sewing machines, my speccy new Babylock and an industrial overlcoker. Sadly that baby is too heavy to even move to another part of the room I'm in let alone transport.
I need to work out what is missing from my super portable Elna Lotus so that can be used as well :) |

| On that note of what neimhaille said. I have 3 sewing machines (Husqvarna, Janome, Elna - all in perfect working order) and a Globe overlocker as well. I can bring those along as long as I can get transport to where ever it is being held. |

Theres some very decent stockings for bout $10-11 at Warehouse (Garage ones), the black ones, if you're super tall they fit comfortably <3 Plus their 3-quarter tights are cool too. |

| @neimhaille; the fabric looks awesome!! do you think attaching that to the white embroidery netting would be enough to give it the curved form? (then again, i forget how much that stuff actually costs).
i wish i was going to the auckland sewing meet. B(
the consensus was non-pill polar fleece! microfleece too if they have it, but it's generally a bit more expensive. also yes, opaque tights! though since i have legs different colours i may make mine out of a stretch knit... unless it is possible to sew one leg of one pair of tights to another. :9 (which i'm sure it is) |

Re: 34 COUSINS? - Katamari Cousins Group -- Saturday '11 By neimhaille. 06/11/10, 03:29 am |
| Awesome :) Oh man I have the brain of the slow... Buckram is a kind of fabric (cotton now used to be linen) that is sized (stiffened) with glue. It will be possible to do similar for other fabrics too.
Do you mean the plastic or fabric stuff? Or the rug stuff? That is a really open mesh and pretty firm. I'll see if I can get samples today of support fabrics :)
The face is about 30X20cm? It will wind up still fairly cheap no matter what is used :)
ADit: It's now 1.15pm and i have face fabric :) And have joined the modern world ;) Am typing from Boost Cafe on Dominion Rd with their wifi ;) Nice cafe, do a nice chai Frappe :)
I had a look at the Bernina here for support for the fabric, they have the soft buckram for $9.40/m but I do know there is better quality out there so I'll keep looking :)
I can cut squares for the faces and post to each of the main cities so they can be distributed to locals :) |

| i'll figure out some solid dimensions when exams finish, but that sounds great michaela! being able to see out/people not being able to see in will be so incredibly useful. |D
i'm... not sure which type it was... they sell it spotlight near the embroidery thread, i thought it was some sort of natural fiber? but there's probably a better option.
@lumissne; it's not so hard! you just have to be unforgiving with the foam. i'm just thinking about cohesiveness... would you be able to come to the chch workshop? i could help you. (: |

| Awesome :) I have 2meters at least for faces and then 4m for nudie pants.
I covered a pair of mascot sized hands with fabric once ;) A sphere won't be too tricky and with the polar fleece being slightly stretchy it should be fine :) I'm just looking for some good guides to help start.. http://www.purlbee.com/fabric-beach-balls/ This is really nice :) You can also adapt a pattern like this (this uses 8 panels)
http://maccabags.typepad.com/weblog/2008/09/tutorial-baby-bunny-ball.html Aiiee:D Kawaii! (this uses six panels)
Actually I think you may even be able to find some polar fleece in four way stretch... that would make it infinitely easier to cover the sphere.

| @lumissne; 8DDDDD
@sakkaf; for katamari balls we're using swiss balls since they're more relative to the size of the person/cheaper to make! (this is mostly for the flashmob).
@ange; the person in the first post just went and used fur for their colombo... i think in some of his versions he IS just black? |
