The 'What's cosplay?' question for dummies By Icarus. 21/09/10, 12:21 pm |
| No no no, I'm not asking this question LOL You guys are probably sick of it haha
Basically I'll be doing a little presentation at the cosplay workshop being held at the palmy library. Turns out the the guy running it hasn't actually cosplayed before which is like whut. Enthusiasm for the hobby is great, but whut. Turns out he has a costume, this is good!
I'm gonna try and explain what cosplay is with a slide show of photo examples from photoshoots and cons. I was also asked to bring in costumes to show (even the librarian wants to borrow one of mine to join in with the fun, shes soo awesome XDD )
so I wanna get some ideas of what you think should be mentioned. I have a vague idea of what to say, but I know some of you guys have way more experience in running your panels, so help is always good~
(also! What do I wear?? a simple outfit or something with more detail..? by the way, it's next Wednesday 8'D)

| I think that you should wear something that you'd be comfortable in, but also something that would make the people attending go 'WHOA, THATS AWESOME' But I don't know how that could work XD |

| If its for little kids expanding on the idea that you get to dress up and make costumes that awesome characters wear would be good showing examples of more widely known characters and their cosplay counter parts may help get the show rolling....Iron man perhaps? also examples of simpler cosplays as well as the more EPICLY EPIC ones? Hope this helps ^.^

| Instead, download a slideshow of Scientology - they're much the same. They both have no escape, drain you of all your money, are full of crap, brainwash you for eternity, and have had some involvement with famous people. (Whether or not it was intentional, Madonna cosplayed Mello in her music video for, uh... Jump?)
BUT ANYWAY. I think you should wear either... Akito? (the leather one) or that girl you had in your avatar before~ 8D
I'd take the literal approach first - explain that it is a portmanteau word of "costume" and "roleplay", explain its origins, explain that it's welcome to all sorts... umm... I'd lend you my definition of it that I did for my Year 8 research project but I think I've lost said file. DX |

| I met a couple of the people interested in the workshop and they're about the same age-ish as me, so I guess it'd be ok to go deeper with the topic~
@Admin: yea I did a cosplay presentation last year for a school assessment which I cannot find the darn file anywhere! *FACEPALM* it had the perfect info for this too ;A;
but yes! Keep the ideas coming~~!
EDIT: Someone wanna offer a full shot of themself in costume for me to point at? Just to break down the different parts/features of a costume, like the wig, make up, chest area, foot wear etc. |

| @Rosen: I'll try and not scare them just yet with that lol, maybe when I've lured them in a little more.. (there'll be 2 workshops~)
@Azeria: Sakura <33 well if you're offering could you send me a 'pro' shot along with 2 'behind the scene' shots? like while you're still putting on the costume, fixing your wig or maybe a crack shot
if anyone has photos of people taking photos of cosplayers, then that would be much appreciated! |

| I probably have a lot of photos of North American conventions and the volumes of people we have there for cosplay, and associated photographers taking photos if you want to use them.
Edit: just ran through them quickly, not a lot of people taking photos of cosplayers but a fair amount of people in general around, if you want those. |
