Yuuri wig- dying
Post By slinky. 10/08/10, 02:22 pm

Kay guys, my Yuuri wig is frustrating me THIS much, to the point I want to burn the dern thing.

Basically I'm a tight arse with money and brought a- in my opinion- very pretty black wig from Spotlight, the only problem is that it has bright red streaks all through it -___- I thought I could simply dye it out and congratulate myself for the cheap buy. Turn outs the hair strands are too slippery, or made out of really crap plastic fibres to let the dye sit on them, and thus the black dye didn't cover up the hideous red and ran out when I washed it.

Soooooo.

Should I stop being a scrooge and buy a better one off the Net, use sharpies or some other method I am very willing to take up on at this stage?

Have you tried attacking it with a Sharpie? That tends to actually work a lot of the time. My Death the Kid wig had the stripes done in layers so sometimes the white showed up under the black parts where it shouldn't, but I managed to fix that my just using a sharpie to colour in those strands black.

If you bought it from Spotlight, it will be a 'party wig'. You cannot dye these wigs since the fibers are basically just very cheap plastic. Sharpies probably won't work any better than the dye. These wigs are a waste of money for cosplay really, unless you are only just starting out and are quite young.

Kanekalon wigs are the most used for cosplay, as they are affordable and you can dye them easily. Try looking on ebay =]

Yeah, unfortunately with wigs it is almost always a case of getting what you pay for. sad TradeMe sometimes has some decent deals, so it's worth a look, but otherwise ebay or cosplay.com are your best bets for quality.

Brwha, thanks guys. Had a feeling it would be a lost cause from the getgo.
Ebay takes NZ credits cards? I've always avoided shipping them in because of the costs -__-

Yes, you just sign up with Paypal NZ. Shipping can look high, but if you look at the total price and shop around you should find something decently priced ^^

For a good quality, dyeable, not-crappy wig you can expect to pay around $60 and up - but, you do find them sometimes for cheaper! With ebay, you can sometimes get pretty good deals too. The shipping is horrible sometimes, but not always - different vendors have different deals :)
