Sugguestion that may make sense!!!

I apologise that you are taking offence of our replies. We are not trying to treat you as an ursurper, rather we are trying to help you see what we are trying to get across. We are taking your suggestion seriously. Please read our replies: have once have we ever said that you are causing flaming? Have once have we ever stated that you are being arrogant? (minus Creature124)
I believe we have not, rather we are replying to and discussing about your suggestion.

I apologise again, but this is the internet - its hard to really tell what one is trying to actually say.

Don't you respect your friends? I consider myself friends with the mods, and I respect them more purely because of that fact. Because they are (mostly) near my age make them approachable to me. Because they are my friends, I respect how hard being a mod can be. A great thing about the cosplay community in New Zealand is how equal we are, and I think this would be taken away if the mods were all much older and took the job too seriously. If you notice, the mods are among the best cosplayers we have in the country (apart from JP lol). I think this fact is a huge part of why they are the best moderators of our community, because we all know/know of them, and because they already command respect because of their skills.

I think they are doing the best job they can, and I don't think you really understand or respect the job they are doing here.

I'm sorry, but being as I'm the only one you can currently be replying to, what? I'm trying to understand. Please refrain from interpretting things as more then they are. I'm not implying arrogance or anything of the sort. I appreciate you're trying to better the forums, I'm just trying to fully understand your suggestion to better my view and decide if I agree or not. Hence why I'm stating why I disagree, so you can supply me with reasons why I'm wrong.

This is slowly dissolving into a petty back and forth, I disagree with you, noyou because of misunderstanding. I'm trying to be constructive.

If there has been questionable conduct, we need to be informed. If the safety of our members is at stake, Tippo should inform someone who can do something about it.

I still am yet to see how a 21 year old mod could handle this situation better if they too haven't witnessed any such thing.

Thak you and i aologise for accusing but with duckeh saying she was offended it made me look otherwise. I realise that I may have next to no good reputation on this forum. I do try to remain fair to all on the community regardless of friend or foe, mod or n00b and I pologise if anything I said was taken the wrong way.

I fully respect the position the mods hold and understand how had the job is being a mod myself with minimal powers on another, much larger, forum and I do realise how hard it is being a St John Youth Leader at my local youth divison and having led in a camp comprising of over 200 members ranging from 10 years of age upwards to 18.

I have also recently recieved Flak from duckeh and other members whether in person or via electronic means due to my apparent conduct and the organisation at the previously passed Second Open Day at the Freelance animation School which led me to suspend the final cosplay event until such a time I have satisfactoraly addressed the previously stated concerns.

So please don't say that I do not know the burden that leadership can be as I have to accept that burden myself alot more than you may realise on an almost daily basis being a 3D animation student and alot of my work is GROUP oriented. I have seen myself what happens when an exttremel authoritarian leader can do to a group which is why I have the additional burden of curbing my tongue and having to balance dictaorialsm with the lezzei-faire leadership. As previously stated (which I seem to have to bring up again and again) I blame no one, I accuse no one, I am not trying to wrest any kind of glory. I stated in the first post that this is a collective sugguestion by myself and Tippo.

If you believe Tippo would have been the better choice to have made the suggestion then by all meants continue this with him. i have made my sugguestion and that is that. I believe any post that is not related to the thread should be considere as unrelated a a sch not to be posted.

Got complaints? Thats what PM is for. I will remain calm and shall address your complaints one at a time and believe me, having aspergers like some other members, remaining calm is not what I usually do. Ergo the reason why I remain Neutral.

I was offended by your implications, I stated this so you could understand how what you were saying was coming across.

This has nothing to do with who has suggested this, I'm just trying to figure out what the advantage of your suggestion is and trying to provoke answers from you with questions and faults I see.

Anyone is free to suggest anything and we try to reason what prompted them to want this, benefits, cons and etc. This is what I'm trying to do. I don't think we'll go through with the actual idea in its purest form, but hearing the reasoning behind it would enlighten us on what we may need improving.

I'm not personally attacking or discrediting you or Tippo, please understand this.

Be calm people. This thread is turning into the "drama" it was supposed to be against.
It is in many ways, a forum for teens, so it is relatively appropriate that it be governed by them.
Besides, god knows I am frivolous, petulant, and can act half my age sometimes.

By older folk, who do you think should take the role? What sort of "leadership" do you feel is required? As has been said, the current mods are on the upper end of the age bracket here...

I suspect that having an "older" mod is really just a symptom of another feeling that you are having, perhaps you think that the forum might benefit from having an older influence, or "adult" organization (which is honestly, far worse than you find on CNZ)?

In a way, it might be a nice idea, but ultimately, it wouldnt really change anything adding a new "older" mod - they would just become a token mod...

You know what they say, if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I like CNZ... back when I was looking to join an online forum to join, and checked out the "Adult" Star Wars and Halo groups, I noted they weren't all that welcoming.
The whole... "don't post unless you've read every post in the archive, and made sure your question hasn't already been covered" thing, really annoyed me. Fellow noobs like myself were being shut down, and not politely, simply for not knowing where to look for info... which is actually part of being a noob.

At least here, you get a good welcoming thread response, and if you made a mistake, the mods would tell you in a lolsy, not too offensive way first and point you in the right direction. At least, unless you made the same mistake over and over. Then you get Modhammered.

I may understand some of what you're saying. Older people in general, tend to tolerate less BS than younger ones. That comes from life experience, knowing what you're about, and generally what you want in life. So your capacity to let BS slide, is far diminished, compared to a teenager, who perhaps is more interested in how they're perceived within a social setting, and doesn't want to stand out as being the meanie.

However, I think our Mods are doing a great job maintaining a balance between (1) Being our friends- (especially as they organise most of the big meetups, and actually meet us in real life) and (2) Enforcing the law on the forums. It's a fine line between the two, and I think they do extraordinarily well, given their individual work/school/commitment circumstances.

I think if Adultish Mods were chosen, solely on their ability to perform (2), then CNZ would cease to be, the fun, welcoming forum that it is now, and would revert to the "Adult" type forums I described at the beginning.

So, no... I don't think we need more adult/older mods- that would change the fundamental culture of this cosplay community (i.e. it's about having fun! and learning from each other). I just think we need to grow as a community... together, and appreciate those that make the commitment to being mods.

But see, THAT is something completely different from what you're asking.

The OP asked for 'older moderators'.

Now you've just asked for 'an R18 forum in which we can discuss things without the younger members'.

The answer to that is a resounding no.

It has been asked for before, and we have declined? Why?

a) These are youth-oriented forums. An adult's only forum is counter to what we are.
b) These are forums about cosplay, not about meet-ups. We do have meet-up sections, but these are designed for cosplay meet-ups for any age. If someone has been abusing that, please report it.
c) Exclusion and discrimination is a form of bullying; and that's what ageism is. An R18 forum would exclude a vast amount of this forum's population.
d) What goes on at meet-ups is not our concern.
e) People will assume 'R18 means we can ignore the PG13 and the swearing rules because those are for kids!'. This will never be allowed - it's part of what makes CNZ such a nice place compared to other forums.

So again, I tell you no, but I do give you a suggestion of my own: Use Facebook. Facebook is designed for social networking (forums are NOT), and you're talking about Social Networking, not Cosplay.

Go on Facebook, make an invite only group, and invite everyone you want to join. Groups have a discussion function which works very similarly to how forums do - so you can have your R18 conversations there - and Groups can also organise events which will send an automatic invitation to every group member.

The only thing I insist is this: you cannot use CNZ in the name of the group, as we do not want this forum associated with an R18 group, and the two are seperate entities anyway.

I do appreciate that you're only trying to help, and I thank you for that; but what you're suggesting would take away from what CNZ is supposed to be, rather than adding to it. Smile

Aaah, ok, that makes a whole lot more sense as to what you were asking for.
But cheah, like JVCA said, it is something that has been brought up before.

At the end of the day, you must question, just how many ppl would end up in this "adult" section anyway?
And what would we actually talk about that is different from what we discuss on the forum normally?

I feel a little bit like we are ganging up on two people here...

Anyhoo, yeah, I think with this kind of stuff, it is better to talk directly with one of the mods first before posting anything.
Also, think about what it is before you post, like I have said before, what is the point, what do you wish to achieve, and will it achieve that goal, all that stuff.

Sounds like things were busy last night while i wasn't on.

Just catching up on things aswell, I'd like to fall back on a few key points. (sorry - my definition of key can be a bit wordy at times). This is aimed at all members, not just those that have posted in the thread.

Spoiler tagged since JVCA covered a number of them aswell.

If someone has an issue to raise directly with the mods you can PM the 'Madmins' group - this goes to all the admin mods.
If there is an issue with a particular post (crude, offensive, double post, breaks rules, etc), you can click the 'Report Post to Moderator/Admin', and the mods will be notified so we can address the issue - and provided work/life doesn't get in the way, one of us will come on to look into it.
Otherwise if it's a general suggestion or forum issue (ie; Spoiler tags not working - again), then this is the place to raise it.

Um. yeah. I think that about sums it up. :)
