Gradient dying a wig?
Post By noodles. 10/05/10, 11:22 am

So... I'm about to embark on this.
Since it's a big image...
Spoiler:
So I want to dye wigs so they look like that. I already have two wigs (white/platinum blonde) that are perfect for the both of them, but I have honestly no idea how I would go about dying these. Lennon mentioned that someone had tried gradient dying before and that I was going to die (a horrible, painful death in some sort of ink+alcohol combination, possibly.).
So any tips how I should go about this? Any and all help is greatly appritiated Gradient dying a wig? 309876 .

I know of a tutorial somewhere, hmm.
If I don't find it, I believe this is the basic -
You dye a smaller section then what you intend for one of the colours(Isolating the other half - use foil + rubber bands?) and then after half an hour or so, gently start combing the colour through to the other, very careful so not to spread the colour too far. You then do the 'drip dry' method for drying it and put it up somewhere high so it can dry? c:

Thanks for the tip, I've got a couple practise wigs (go two dollar shops) so I'll try it out.

Try talking to Seraphik (Lucy), I know that she has done some gradient dying before, can't remember if it was for a wig or fabric though.

What is the best thing to use for dying wigs? Is it best to use normal hair dye?

I've tried colouring a long light brown a dark red for a Starfire cosplay (Teen Titans) using temperary hair colouring spray but it isnt as smooth and as even as i'd like.

Whats the best method?

Sorry to change subject.

Sharpies do actually work, if you're on a budget or whatever XD (But they take a looong time)
But yes normal hair colour/bleach works best.
And remember, you can use the cheap colours and bleaches, it doesn't really matter since you're colouring a wig so they're not exactly going to fade quickly... :3
