DO:2010 - Auckland & General Event Etiquette By jpwise. 21/07/10, 05:42 am |
| As most of you no doubt will be aware, Doujin Overload (DO:2010 - www.animenz.com) is coming up this weekend, so it's probably about time to issue a polite reminder. Most of you won't have heard about it, but there were a number of complaints last year regarding cosplayers at DO, particularly blocking access to artists tables, and loitering in thoroughfares. Including a comment regarding someone blowing soap bubbles - apparently this was done inside the venue and some artists had problems with bubbles landing on their artwork and leaving soapy residue - which can be particularly damaging with water and oil based artworks. So just a points to bear in mind if you're attending DO this weekend. * Please don't block access to the artists tables - it's part of their livelihood and if customers can't get to the tables, they can't sell their artwork. * Please take extra care with props, noone wants to accidentally damage anything on display, or injure anyone. * Please don't take any food or drink into the main room - this is a DO rule to protect peoples artworks and the venue itself - other rules are on display at the door. * Please use your common sense - having fun is awesome, but if you make a nuisance of yourself it makes all the cosplayers look bad, and if that happens we may be asked to leave.
This really applies as much to any event as it does to DO specifically.

| If you want somewhere to hang out and loiter, venture down to the Cosplay Cafe for a tasty beverage!

| Also, please watch where you sit and don't leave your personal belongings all over the place. The place was quite crowded last year, which wasn't helped by people sitting all over the place tripping others up.
By no means that cosplayers are the worst offenders, but we are also the most visible people. Just sayin'.

| LOL, yeah, it was a public service announcement after all. Most people wouldn't have heard about it, but it filtered back to a few of the mods that there were 'concerns' expressed after the attendance of the cosplayers last year. We did kinda invade en masse, and as Selphiroth said, we may not have been the worst offenders, but with the cosplays, definitely the most visible.
I didn't witness the bubble blowing incident, only heard about it after the fact, so yeah, we're trying to alleviate some of the DO committee organisers concerns by giving everyone a heads up in advance. :) :) Otherwise I'll see you all this weekend. :) |
